Location: Kimberley, near Thornbury & Collingwood, Ontario

Full-Time Teacher / Outdoor Educator

We are seeking a multi-talented and creative teacher and outdoor educator to become a key member of our team and take over an extraordinary group of 12 Grade 4/5 students beginning immediately.

The BMWS Educator is required to have a strong knowledge of the natural world, understanding of the Grade 4/5 Ontario curriculum requirements, be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and be adaptable to teaching to a wide range of students (from JK to 6) in an outdoor setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in experiential education curriculum development, be creative, passionate about making a difference and excited about the possibilities and potential of a new program.

Valid driver’s license and access to your own vehicle is required in order to travel to our various program locations within the Blue Mountains region.

Qualifications:

  • The Candidate must possess OCT qualifications in good standing.
  • Must have experience in instructing students of various grades in an outdoor setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in experiential education curriculum development

Requirements:

  • Backcountry / Adventure skills including: camping, canoeing, mountain biking, cross country skiing are an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of Ontario Ministry Curriculum Expectations
  • Passionate about alternative / experiential learning and outdoor education
  • Creative, energetic and fun characteristics
  • Excellent interpersonal and pragmatic skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good initiative and ability to see what needs to be completed
  • Team Player
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification (wilderness first-aid an asset)
  • Experience in backcountry guiding and tripping an asset

As a condition of employment, a valid Police Records Check (for working with the Vulnerable Sector) completed within the last 6 months is required prior to commencing work.

Beginning compensation is in the range of $180 to $220 / day, commensurate with skills and experience + benefits and vacation. Our intention is to far exceed all other outdoor education programs and be competitive with Private Schools.
