Position: Green Facility Assistant
Organization: Pacific Northwest Raptors
Location: Duncan, BC

The Raptors is hiring! We are a bird of prey organization with the goal of encouraging conservation through education.

The Raptors is looking for a green facility assistant who would be helping in all aspects of managing and operating our facilities as well as our local farm and gardens. The goal is to have a team member who helps to drive us to become more green, environmentally friendly and sustainable, in keeping with the conservation mandate of the raptors.

This is a contract, funded position for an applicant under thirty years of age, and qualified applicants must have a diploma or degree in a science field. See for more details on qualifications (you can be pre-approved for eco Canada funding via their website).

Working directly with our Director and facility managers, your daily tasks would include:

  • Assisting with all aspects of working farms
  • Day to day care & management of farms (2), rescue animal care (non-raptors; pigs, llamas etc) and food production (quail, chickens, ducks)
  • Day to day maintenance & care of the farm including (but not limited to); fence & building repair, barn management, supply management
  • Ensuring buildings are energy efficient, making recommendations and implementing more energy efficient & green methods of building (e.g. adding rain water barrel collection systems, composting, etc.).

On-going initiatives include;

  • Improving on-going composting program and sustainable methods of waste management
  • Assisting with implementation of demonstration gardens and various other eco-friendly initiatives at the Raptors facility
  • Education of initiatives within staff and community
  • Working with other organizations in the community

The suitable Candidate would have:

  • (Required for funding): A 2 year diploma or degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience/knowledge in green/sustainable farming and building
  • Farming experience (including use of tractors, tools, etc.,)
  • Farming/Animal care experience
  • Ability to be adaptable to working on multiple projects
  • Some experience in building/construction an asset
  • Strong work ethic
  • Passion for environmental conservation

Exceptional candidates may also possess the following:

  • First aid training and experience
  • Outdoor field skills
  • Public speaking and/or education experience.
  • Farm management experience
  • Animal breeding/rearing experience

Starting wage is $17-19 dependent on experience, with benefits available for full-time positions after 3 months. Position to start on November 15th or earlier, training provided. Criminal Record Check required.
