Green Being Farm produces beautiful vegetables, grassfed beef, and pastured pork and poultry on our farm near historic Neustadt, Ontario. We sell our food directly to the people who eat it through our Community Shared Agriculture programs and online meat sales.
Green Being Farm is looking to hire a part time farm assistant. 25 hours/week, with a flexible schedule. Tasks include managing the CSA market gardens and working with our pastured chickens, pigs and grassfed cattle. We are very happy to make this a shared position if two people would like to apply together. Wage is $15/hr, plus meat, vegetables and eggs from our farm, and there is a lovely apartment on the farm available for rent, which is deducted from your wage.
Optional Business Incubator Opportunity
In addition to paid hours, there are numerous opportunities for the candidate to incubate their own farm business on our land, using our infrastructure and tools. In the past, people have run market gardens, grown flowers, raised bees, ducks, grown herbs, trees, etc. There is lots of land, including greenhouse space available. Many of our former incubators have gone on to run their own farm businesses.
If you prefer not to pilot a farm project, additional income can be found by acquiring work in town or on one of the neighbouring small, organic farms (of which there are quite a few!). We can put you in touch with these farms and help you secure employment.
If you choose not to pursue an incubator project and/or have never participated in a Youth Employment and Skills program, a wage increase may be possible, dependent on experience.
Please feel free to contact Tarrah to discuss any ideas you might be considering for additional local employment, possible incubator ideas etc.
Time span: Start date is flexible — sometime between April 1st and May 1st. Contract ends March 1, 2021 with the possibility of a second contract.
Candidates are required to have previous farming experience, a drivers' license and be able to lift 50 lb loads.
To apply: please email Tarrah with resume and cover letter, and a reference from a farm. Or feel free to just get the ball rolling by emailing me with any questions you have: email@example.com
We will send all interested applicants an information package with more details about the position, the farm, the farmers and what we are looking for in an ideal candidate.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
