IGSHPA Canada is an association of people working in the geothermal heat pump industry in Canada. It includes mechanical contractors installing residential and commercial projects, drilling and excavation contractors installing ground heat exchangers, mechanical engineers designing ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems for a wide variety of applications, architects designing buildings and projects with GSHP systems, developers installing systems in their projects, financial companies investing in renewable energy sources, and electric utilities who benefit from the reduction in electrical demand from GSHP systems connected to their system.
We have applied for funding support under Canada Summer Jobs for two (2) summer positions:
1) Webmaster / Researcher, $17 per hour, 16 weeks
Design structure of internet domain. Post existing content to appropriate sections. Assist researcher to obtain new content. Produce graphics for site. Market domain through use of social media, metatags, etc. Involved in all technical aspects of developing the internet domain, and will include extensive exposure to the energy and environmental sector in Canada.
2) Researcher, $16 per hour, 16 weeks
Undertake extensive online and physical searches for information relating to promotion of a low-carbon energy technology and its environmental implications for Canada. S/he will condense material into suitable format for posting on the internet site, including production of graphic content, minimal translation, marketing information, etc. Responsible for sourcing information and for amending content into relevant format for the internet website and other promotional media. A range of communication skills will be developed, from formal technical jargon to informal vernacular text.
Both positions will be conducted at the students' location, with weekly / bi-weekly team meetings in a convenient coffee shop to update workflow.
Preference will be given to students that are underrepresented or have additional barriers to the labour market including recent immigrant youth and recent refugee youth, youth who have not previously been employed and for whom this would be their first job experience, indigenous, youth with disabilities, visible minorities, LGBTQ2 youth, women in STEM.
