Farm Help, Students and Co-op Placements
on Certified Organic Farm

Position: Farm Help, Students and Co-op Placements on Organic Farm
Organization: Wicklow Way Farm
Location: east of Cobourg/Grafton, Central Ontario

Wicklow Way farm has been growing certified organic vegetables for twelve years. Our property is 40 acres and we cultivate 6 acres of vegetables and some fruits. We have an outdoor wood-fired oven where we bake artisan sourdough breads for our farmers markets. We have 100 heritage laying hens and we run pastured poultry for meat during the warmer months.

Our focus is on food, the meal on the plate, not just the vegetables. We strive to provide a positive food experience for our customers which involves talking extensively about food, how to prepare and cook it, and how to savour and enjoy it. Much time and care is taken to wash, bundle and present beautiful produce at our farmers markets.

All farm team members report to and take direction and guidance from the field supervisor who is actively involved in the day-to-day farm operations. The farm team consists of four full-time team members plus the two farm owners. The farm team’s duties are to grow, harvest and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables for market.

Hours: This is a seasonal, PAID position starting in April/May to the end of October/November. The hours are Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm with an hour lunch break.

Accommodation is available for a minimal rental fee and is across the road from the farm. Team members can walk to work in a very short time. Internet is available on the farm property.

The right person loves farm work, including fine detailed seeding, weeding, cooking, and eating and is also approachable and pleasant, a good communicator, easy to work with and enjoys all aspects of the farm lifestyle. Previous experience working on an organic farm is an asset though we will also consider those applicants who are currently attending sustainable agriculture programs, students who require a co-op placement, and those who have completed previous farm internships.

The list below is a good example of some of our daily tasks:

  • Seedling production
  • Cultivation/weeding
  • Transplanting
