Position: Home Energy Retrofit Survey & Mapping Analyst

This is a summer project position that provides foundational environmental management experience in support of a career path in the expanding field of home energy efficiency promotion. This position will assist with various tasks to support City Green’s Oil Heated Homes Identification Project and Contractor Database Project, including but not limited to:

1. Oil Heated Homes Identification Project

  • Conduct phone and visual (foot or bike) surveys of homes to identify oil heating systems.
  • Provide electronic/print communications materials including retrofit education and rebate opportunities will be provided to the homeowners.
  • All appropriate information (as per applicable information privacy laws) will be entered into a database for tracking, mapping and reporting purposes to track finding from surveys
  • Data analysis of collected data, including mapping, and creating a draft final report.

2. Contractor Database Project

  • Undertake online research and update existing home enery retrofit an existing contractor database.
  • Provide reporting on updated database to visually demonstrate

Qualifications (Skills, Experience, Personality)

  • Must be enrolled in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics) program in a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status.
  • Being flexible and motivated is a requirement.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced team environment.
  • Good listening skills and a high tolerance for interruptions and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to be self-directed, think-on-your-feet, teach yourself how to complete tasks and address challenges and issues as they arise.
  • Ability and interest to learn building science and the nuances of energy efficiency incentives.
  • Ability and willingness to talk with residents on the phone or in personin straight forward language.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with energy efficiency, building construction, and/or building science an asset.
  • Phone and/or canvassing experience is an asset.
  • Outgoing, friendly and approachable personality.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and telephone).
  • Experience with MS Office suite including strong MS Excel skills.
  • Experience with reporting findings or research and surveys an asset

Other Information

  • The contract timeline will be between July and August
  • Start Date: As soon as the right candidate is available
  • Hours: A minimum of 180 hours. Flexible work hours
  • Compensation: $17/hour
  • Location: Downtown Victoria office, close to public transit and indoor and outdoor bike lock-up. Visual surveys would occur in target neighbourhoods.
  • Training: Job training provided including building science and client services training
  • Work Environment: City Green offers a casual and flexible (but fast paced) work environment and an opportunity to help shape and grow a dynamic energy/GHG reduction focused social enterprise
