Position: Research and Communications Intern
Type: summer job / age 30 & under

Tasks and responsibilities of the employee:

  • Working 30 hr/wk for 9 weeks (from July 2 through August 30)
  • Research and writing materials with an environmental sustainability focus, particularly relating to Rouge National Urban Park
  • Coordinating and organizing campaign-oriented events, promoting public participation in environmental outreach, education and stewardship workshops related to Ontario Chapter activities
  • Assist in developing and executing digital communications strategy including website content creation, social media marketing strategy, and membership e-newsletters
  • Assist in promoting Sierra Club’s membership growth strategy and strengthening member relations through online and public outreach methods
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and coordinating campaign volunteers
  • Fundraising assistance including identifying grants and sponsorship opportunities, and general administrative support as needed

Training will be provided that will enhance the interns' skills especially in engagement organizing, volunteer management and science communications.


  • familiarity with environmental issues planning, and water/land management in particular, an asset;
  • organizational and time management skills
  • confidence in data management and online research
  • experience recruiting and managing volunteers;
  • experience organizing public events an asset;
  • excellent organizational and writing skills;
  • graphic design skills an asset;
  • ability to engage partners and supporters from other organizations and sectors an asset;

This is a Canada Summer Job Position, so you must meet these criteria to be eligible:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.

Remuneration: This position is 30 hr/wk for 9 weeks at $14/hr.

Must be able to complete 9 weeks of work by August 30, 2019.
