SUMMER STUDENT JOB

Position: Beach Master
Type: summer job / age 30 & under

Toronto Island SUP is the only stand up paddleboard (SUP) company on Toronto Island and the premier SUP destination in Toronto. We began in 2014 and continue to grow with a mission to connect Torontonians and visitors with the water. We are looking for talented and passionate individuals to help us continue upward as professional facilitators of adventure and fun in the heart of the city.

Nature of Work - Seasonal from June to September

The Beach Master is the manager of daily operations from June though to Early September. They are there as the face of the company to greet, organize and assist guests and instructors for their experiences. They may also be asked to assist in certain projects such as building infrastructure, cleaning and repairing equipment.

Weekends are our busiest time and require full attention and energy. Days begin with checking emails, becoming familiar with the schedule and setting up the equipment for the day. Weekend days will usually have multiple Beach Masters during the busiest times as well as instructors teaching classes throughout the day.

The Beach Master is also expected to clean equipment and do other tasks that help with business image and promote smooth daily operations.

As the season progresses, the Beach Master is expected to develop skills and take on more and higher-level responsibilities within the business including but not limited to clerical and administrative tasks.

Requirements

Experience with stand up paddleboarding and paddling, strong swimming ability, First Aid & CPR-C certified, NLS not required but an asset, 16 years of age.

Key Skills

Clear communication, reading comprehension, time management, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, deductive reasoning, attention to detail, ability to work independently or with a team, physical ability to lift & transport equipment, guest management and proper self-care.

Main Duties

Equipment transport, drive electric utility vehicle, answer emails, process payments, facilitate waiver process, keep beach area clean & free of garbage, manage assistants & instructors, answer TISUP phone, schedule & manage guests, maintain good organization, promote social media channels & contact with customers, engage with customers & create rapport, ensure guests understand our terms and conditions, explain and demonstrate proper paddling technique to renters, follow daily checklists, keep general care of equipment and uphold business image.

This is not a comprehensive list and staff may be asked to undertake in tasks not listed here.

Working Hours

Must commit to a training period in May, June or July prior to start of job activities. Beach Masters are generally considered TISUP core staff which means they must commit to roughly 20 hours and more responsibilities within the company.

This position is heavily reliant on weekend availability.

Compensation

Negotiable. Based on experience, ceritifications.
