Hiring: Bike Valet Operator
Type: age 30 & under / summer contract
Duration: 9-12 weeks / possibility to extend contract

OurSquamish Placemaking Society is looking for a Bike Valet Operator to run our Bike Valet social enterprise this summer! This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, and is available to Canadians citizens or Permanent Residents 30 and under.

OurSquamish is a community non-profit dedicated to enhancing Squamish’s urban public spaces for a lively, inclusive, sustainable, safe & healthy Squamish. Through people-driven projects, education, and advocacy, we are committed to building equitable public spaces that support the diversity of our community.

Last summer we launched a Bike Valet social enterprise. By offering a Bike Valet service, free for attendees at local events, we provide a secure and reliable place for event-goers to store their bikes while they enjoy the fun. This summer's events include: Loggers Fest, Arc’teryx Climbing Academy, Squamish Arts Fest and more!

What does a Bike Valet Operator (you!) do?
You ensure the smooth running of the Bike Valet service – from coordinating with local event planners and conducting site visits before the event, to managing the set-up and tear down of the Bike Valet gear, communicating with volunteers and fostering a fun work environment for the Bike Valet crew, and, of course, park bikes. Most Bike Valet events are scheduled during weekends, this position is required to manage the service on those scheduled dates. The rest of the work week’s tasks will be completed remotely and on your own schedule. You will work closely with the Executive Director to create a work plan, and will be supported by the Community Engagement Coordinator and members of the Board.

The ideal candidate:

  • Enjoys working outside and on their feet
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enjoys troubleshooting and finding solutions to the unexpected
  • Is a creative thinker who is self-motivated and organized
  • Works well independently and in a team environment
  • Has experience driving a truck and trailer (not required!)
  • Has experience, or the willingness to learn how to manage volunteers
  • Is physically able to lift up to 40lbs
  • Is living in Squamish for the duration of the contract

Position Details:

  • $20-$25/hr depending on experience
  • 30 hours/week, hybrid work model
  • Weekend work will be required
  • Start date flexible, from June
  • 9-12 weeks with possibility to grow in the organization
  • Applicant must be aged between 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible due to funding restrictions.
  • Must be living in Squamish for the duration of the contract
  • Possibility for growth in the organization for the right candidate
