Position: Farmers' Market Manager
Organization: Covent Garden Market
Location: London, Ontario

Hours: Part time, approximately 30 hours per week. Must be in attendance for Thursday and Saturday markets and special events. This is a year round position.

Reporting to: CGM General Manager, CEO, or CGM board of directors.

Role and Responsibilities:

The farmers’ market manager is responsible for the general functioning of the market twice weekly. The market manager is the “go to person” for vendor questions and concerns and is responsible for the vendors that are at the farmers’ market. The market manager must be able to problem solve quickly, communicate effectively with staff and vendors and ensure that each week the market runs smoothly. The market manager’s knowledge of food and agriculture must be expansive and they must be able to apply this knowledge while coordinating cooking classes, choosing vendors and understanding a correct vendor balance for the market.

  • Assisting with the general set up and tear down of the market
  • Social media management of Facebook, twitter and Instagram accounts
  • Processing vendor payments
  • Recruiting new vendors and retaining past vendors
  • Providing vendors support during market hours
  • Writing and posting a weekly newsletter
  • Ensuring a 50% +1 farmer to non-farmer ratio
  • Working with the health unit to ensure vendors are following safe food practices
  • Enforcing farmers’ market rules
  • Visiting new farms to ensure a “fit” for the Covent Garden Market
  • Coordinating special events ( all local bbq, fall food fest, pumpkin patch, library program)
  • Weekly cooking class coordination
  • Weekly music coordination
  • Weekly seasonal sampling coordination and recipe development
  • Sit on the steering committee of the Harvest Bucks Program and Urban Agriculture Steering Committee
  • Willingness to participate in other community events where applicable
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Strengthening partnerships between other markets and community organizations


  • Candidate must have a degree or diploma from an accredited institution
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Proven success in event planning
  • Skills in social media management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong connection with local agriculture
  • Safe food handler’s certificate
  • Understanding of cooking
  • Leadership oriented
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
