Position: Part-time social media coordinator
Organization: The Fur-Bearers
Location: North Vancouver, BC. (Remote work position)

The Fur-Bearers are hiring a part-time social media coordinator! The ideal candidate is passionate, energetic, a self-starter, loves wildlife and is highly organized. This is a remote position.

Job Description: The Part-Time Social Media Coordinator will manage The Fur-Bearers’ extensive social media network to increase engagement, education, fundraising efforts and other opportunities to promote the mandate of the organization.

Important notes:

  • This position will require visual storytelling regarding animal cruelty in Canada, as well as legal practices such as trapping and industrial fur farming. The Fur-Bearers avoids use of graphic or upsetting images publicly but they are an essential part of our work.
  • This position will not involve directly interacting with wildlife.

Qualifications:

  • Imagination and creativity, paired with a passion for the environment and wildlife
  • A strong, independent work ethic and outstanding organization skills
  • An ongoing familiarity with social media trends, tools and functions
  • Strong and proven ability to communicate effectively and tactfully online
  • Experience managing social media platforms effectively
  • Experience creating original graphics required; an understanding of tools such as Canva and Photoshop is recommended
  • Experience using social media management platforms such as Hootsuite
  • A digital portfolio including:
    • Samples of original graphics
    • Samples of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram post writing
    • Samples of general writing (articles, blogs, journals are acceptable)
  • Degree, diploma or certification in communications, fundraising or marketing is an asset but not required
  • Existing knowledge of Canadian wildlife and their habitats, as well as issues facing them as it relates to The Fur-Bearers’ mandate.

Job Duties:

  • Work with the Director of Communications and Advocacy to create and maintain ongoing schedule for social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
    • Communicate and create opportunities to work with other team members, as well.
  • Seek appropriate external items to share in schedule
  • Develop infographics/meme content from The Fur-Bearers’ library of content
  • Add new/timely content into schedules as it is developed
  • Engage with social media users directly and help to maintain appropriate conduct and discourse
  • Develop engagement plans that tie into campaigns and fundraising initiatives, and act as acquisition tools
