Position: Skate Associate

Overview:

As Skate Associate you are an essential member of the Winter Active Living Team, responsible for skate instruction, program facilitation and skate desk responsibilities. You will deliver our skate programming including, leading our Learn to Skate Lessons, Skate School visits, Community Group visits and Public Skate hours, and assist with rink maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with a team to plan and lead effective and engaging skating lessons for children ages 4-15 and adults ages 16+
  • Facilitating school/community visits and public skate hours (including supervision of ice rink and fire pits)
  • Ensuring that risk is managed and safety is upheld for an excellent participant experience
  • Working closely with a team of volunteers and assisting the Project Manager, Active Living with volunteer management
  • Fulfilling Skate Desk responsibilities through:
    • Providing program information to interested participants
    • Assisting participants with skate sizing and sharpening
    • Handling skate rental transactions
    • Assisting with rink maintenance

Guidelines:

Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Project Manager, Active Living
  • Supervises: assists with supervision of Volunteer Team

Qualifications:

  • Experienced skating instructor and/or strong skating skills (additional educator experience an asset)
  • Experience working with the public; comfort working with individuals of different ages, backgrounds and abilities
  • Able to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • First Aid/CPR certification an asset

Working conditions:

  • Outdoors in cold weather
  • Working with children and adults
  • Standing/skating for extended periods of time

Terms of contract: part-time weekdays evenings and all-day weekends from November 26th to March 1st. Opportunities to work occasional weekday afternoons.

Starting Rate: $16.00
