Nature Canada is currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, strategic leader to take our ambitious conservation efforts to the next level.

Nature Canada ( is a community of over 50,000 nature lovers. Our mission is to protect and conserve nature in Canada by engaging Canadians and advocating on behalf of nature. As outlined in our strategic plan, we work to: protect species and habitats by speaking up as the national voice for nature; promote nature as part of the Canadian identity by engaging Canadians in celebrating and protecting nature; and strengthen our roots by growing Nature Canada’s community of nature lovers.

Reporting to a national Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing the operational leadership to Nature Canada’s strong professional staff and volunteers and strategic assistance to the Board. The Executive Director will be a staunch advocate for protecting ecologically sensitive areas and species at risk, and connecting Canadians to nature. The Executive Director will implement Nature Canada’s strategic plan and champion Nature Canada initiatives, policies, objectives and programs. A skilled fundraiser, the Executive Director will attract and maintain members, donors, supporters, affiliates and partners, and grow our successful Women for Nature initiative.

Nature Canada is seeking expressions of interest in becoming its next Executive Director. This role requires leadership, vision, imagination, creativity, the ability to focus simultaneously on strategic and operational issues, excellent communication and management skills, and a passionate commitment to the natural world. The successful candidate will have strong conservation credentials and a record of fundraising success, be social media savvy, and have experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors, and at least 10 years experience leading a diverse team. A bilingual candidate is preferred.

This is a fast-paced and diverse role where every day is different. The critical duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead and manage the staff team
  • Grow resources through fundraising
  • Implement the strategic plan
  • Ensure effective communications with members, supporters, partners, media and the public
  • Advocate tirelessly for nature conservation
  • Develop and implement a membership diversity strategy
  • Renew and expand our diverse partnerships
  • Ensure effective budgeting and financial management
  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements
  • Support the work of the Board.
