Position: Model Analyst

The trans-disciplinary nature of our work encompases areas such as energy, emissions, buildings, transportation, industry, waste, land use, natural resources, demographics, economics and finance.


The Model Analyst will work with the whatIf team to support the various stages of our modelling life cycle: data collection and processing; model calibration; scenario development and action analysis; reporting and visualization; and model updating and maintenance. The Model Analyst will regularly interact with project partners and clients.

The successful candidate will have the following qualities and attributes:

Subject matter knowledge in any of the following areas is considered an asset:

  1. Energy demand

  2. Energy supply

  3. GHG emissions

  4. Architecture & building systems

  5. Transportation

  6. Demographics & economics

  7. Industrial processes

  8. Policy

  9. Urban planning & geography

  10. Economics & finance

Any of the following skills and proficiencies is considered an asset:

  1. Modelling & simulation

  2. Array/matrix languages (e.g. Matlab, R, Xarray)

  3. Statistics & data management (e.g. Python, pandas, Jupyter, Juputerlab, R, SPSS, SQL)

  4. Microsoft Office and/or G Suite

  5. Big data & AI

  6. GIS (e.g. QGIS, ESRI ArcGIS, Geopandas)

  7. Data visualization & web (e.g. D3, Plotly, Dash, Tableau, Javascript)

  8. Unix/Linux

  9. Cloud & containers (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Docker)

  10. Software development (e.g. C/C++, GUI, APIs, REST, Git) & dev ops

Some travel and evening work may be required. The salary is commensurate with experience.
