About the position

The Saskatoon Engagement Coordinator has two objectives: 1) raise awareness of the importance of wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region and their many ecosystem services; and 2) empower residents of Saskatoon to learn, appreciate, and advocate for our local natural heritage.

The Saskatoon Engagement Coordinator will create and promote educational content on wetlands of the Prairie Pothole Region through social media, our website, and blogs. They will also be tasked with developing self-guided and group events for community members.These events allow the community to engage with their local nature pockets in meaningful ways. All activities will be adapted to adhere to the current health authority guidelines in Saskatchewan.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Create and promote educational resources on wetland services and the ecological importance of Prairie Pothole Region (blogs, social media content, website content);
  • Engage local community by hosting community self-guided or facilitated events (virtual or in-person depending on local health authority guidelines);
  • Provide resources for local community members to engage with nature in their community;
  • Develop content and post on social media channels
  • Send newsletter and updates about new resources to membership;
  • All other related duties


  • Post-secondary training in one of the following areas: Environmental Studies, Biology, Ecology, Journalism, Communications, or Community Engagement
  • Scientific literacy and/or understanding of wetlands
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in teams and independently
  • Ability to work remotely (access to a computer, internet and work space)
  • Comfortable leading activities and working with people of all ages
  • Familiarity using social media and website in a professional context
  • Experience in event coordination is an asset
  • Appreciation of nature is a must!


This is a 10 week contract for 22 hours per week at $16 hourly wage. Ideal start date is June 7, 2021. Monthly phone and internet allowance is provided. 


Successful applicants will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for this position:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
