Position: Store & Resource Centre Coordinator
Organization: GreenUP
Location: Peterborough, Ontario

Term: Permanent 30-37.5 hours per week

Compensation: $17.00 to $18.00 per hour; commensurate with experience

Desired Start Date: May 15, 2017

GreenUP is a critical resource in our community, offering immersive and impactful programming that addresses emergent concerns, enables meaningful citizen action, and supports long-term environmental sustainability. The GreenUP Store and Resource Centre is the face of our organization and a community hub for Peterborough residents to access products, services, and resources that support more sustainable living. It also promotes GreenUP’s departmental and partner organizations’ activities and initiatives in their mission to educate, inform, and empower the residents of Peterborough. The store sells equipment and products that are carefully selected as eco-friendly alternatives to existing products.

This position is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of GreenUP’s Store and Resource Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of the operation of a retail outlet including opening and closing the store, handling sales (cash, debit & credit), and the reconciliation of daily sales
  • Managing inventory including ordering and restocking of shelves
  • Researching and sourcing relevant and exciting products for store
  • Liaise with consignees and reaching out to new consignees, as needed
  • Quarterly inventory reconciliation
  • Front line customer service
  • Reception for incoming calls and visitors
  • Maintain cleanliness and beauty of the store
  • Recruit, train, and schedule staff and volunteers as required

Key characteristics and skills to succeed in this role:

  • Collaborative and Kind: The candidate must have proven teamwork skills and the ability to foster and maintain inclusive, equitable, and safe dynamics; they must also have sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with members of the public
  • Attention to Detail: The applicant is organized, manages time well, has money-handling experience, and has strong attention to detail
  • Conscientiousness: Ability to juggle multiple priorities, effectively able to balance short-term needs of the store with larger longer-term goals
  • Initiative: Identifies necessary improvements, streamlines processes where possible, identifies new directions and priorities, and is proactive in bringing these forward
  • Communication & Computer Skills: Strong verbal, written, and design skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Data Entry Management, and QuickBooks is preferred
  • Environmentally-minded: Demonstrated commitment to the environment and community through previous work or volunteerism.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-years experience in retail, public education, or customer service, ideally in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license, and access to a vehicle or be legally able to rent a car considered an asset
