Position: Property and Construction Manager
Type: summer job / summer student position
Organization: Headwaters Community Farm
Location: Cobourg/Port Hope/Northumberland, Ontario (housing available, see below)
Headwaters Community Farm and Education Centre is a unique combination of organic agriculture and agro-tourism. Our aim is threefold: to feed our family and workers fresh, whole, nutritious foods; to use sustainable methods of farming and living to protect our beautiful environment; and to open our farm to outside visitors to share in our bounty and to educate them about healthy eating, ecological farming practices and homesteading skills. This is an important year for us as we are formally launching our education programming and bringing on board a number of staff to help us do it!
Headwaters is a 120-acre, mixed-use farm that is in a constant state of rejuvenation and repair. Regularly, we are building fences and gates, fixing doors and windows, replacing rain gutters, re-wiring and patching holes. We also do a lot of new construction related to our farm work, permaculture gardening and tourism activities such as building chicken tractors, water containment structures, outhouses, seating areas, signage, displays and landscaping. Our workshop is equipped with most hand and power tools needed to get the job done so all equipment has to be well-organized and accessible.
