About Taking Root

Taking Root is an internationally acclaimed not-for-profit on a mission to use reforestation to tackle poverty and climate change. We combine a community reforestation approach with cutting-edge technology to help farmers grow trees on underused land. In doing so, we aim to create sustainable livelihoods while mitigating climate change. We are looking for someone to lead the development of forest projects in smallholder farmer supply chains. In particular, you will be working with industry leading coffee, cacao and spices companies to help raise funding and implement projects to deliver emissions reductions and removals within their supply chains. This role is a permanent position based in Vancouver.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the commercial director to identify potential projects and funders
  • Manage the end-to-end process of project development, through from project concepts to implementation
  • Co-ordinate and build relationships with stakeholders including funders, NGO partners, food brands and commodity retailers to develop new projects
  • Present Taking Root’s approach and technology, FARM-TRACE, to potential partners and funders
  • Support and lead the creation and writing of project and grant proposals for companies and funders
  • Create budgets and project plans for the implementation of projects
  • Having successfully won funding, manage funder and stakeholder relationships through project implementation
  • Work alongside project managers and Taking Root’s operations team to ensure successful project implementation

Requirements

  • Experience managing and building partnerships in complex stakeholder landscapes
  • Exceptional writing skills with experience of writing project or grant proposals
  • Experience of working with commodity supply chains or forests and carbon
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Skills in building budgets and project planning including implementation plans
  • University degree in a relevant field such as arts, forestry or environmental science
  • 2+ years’ experience of working in a similar role or business
  • A good understanding of carbon footprinting and impact reporting processes is a plus
  • Business development experience is a plus
  • Spanish speaking is a plus

Role details:

Our office is based in Vancouver, BC. We currently work mostly remotely during Covid-19 but there is the opportunity to work from the office. We schedule regular team activities to come together in safe ways to work or socialize in line with BC’s latest public health guidelines.
