Position: Program Manager

Park People is a national charity that builds stronger communities across Canada by animating and improving parks, placing them at the heart of life in the city. Created in 2011, we are a dynamic, growing organization that is at the forefront of a Canadian city park renaissance. We focus on facilitating neighbourhood engagement in local parks, providing resources and information for best practices for our parks, building a network of community park groups, bringing public attention to issues affecting our parks and highlighting the importance of good parks to the social, health, environmental and economic well-being of all Canadians.

In this role, you will lead Park People’s public programs through the next exciting phase of growth, working with partners to deliver new and expanded programs. As a team leader you will supervise and coach a team of 4-6 staff delivering programs on the ground in Toronto and across Canada. Behind the scenes you will be responsible for broadening the programming funding base to ensure that our core work as well as new projects are sustainable over time. We are a small and collaborative team who care about improving cities by helping to support vibrant parks and green spaces. As Program Manager your role would include:

Program Management and Planning:

  • Lead the strategic program and partnership development for Park People’s public facing programs
  • Work collaboratively to set long and short term priorities and staffing and budget plans to meet goals
  • Ensure team is participating in ongoing program development through evaluation, monitoring and learning
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of program budgets including quarterly reviews

Fundraising and Program Development:

  • Developing sustainable programs with diverse funding sources
  • Working with partner organizations to submit collaborative proposals
  • Maintaining positive relationships with funders, including submitting timely reports
  • Building the team’s program partnership and fee for service portfolio

Team leadership:

  • Building a healthy team culture of collaboration, accountability and ongoing learning
  • Completing performance management for all direct reports
  • Interviewing and selecting staff, orienting, training, and coaching team members
  • Ensuring Health and Safety protocols and effective systems are in place for program team
  • Reviewing team structure to ensure roles have clear responsibilities and effective work processes

The skills and experience you bring to the role include:

  • Proven experience developing and implementing complex multi-site programs
  • Fundraising experience including proposal and report writing and relationship management
  • Understanding program design and impact
  • Analytical and written skills, including the effective design and compelling description of programs
  • Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of budget vs. actual expenditure
  • Leading the development and overseeing the implementation of operational plans
  • Ability to identify potential partners and strengthening existing relationships, represent the organization with programming partners and provide leadership to collaborative initiatives
  • Skill in supporting and coaching staff and leading an effective team
  • Bilingualism/ French is an asset

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
