Position: Program Manager
Organization: Evergreen

Evergreen is currently seeking to add to its team of Program Managers. This group of organizational leaders plays a critical role in the development and delivery of Evergreen’s diverse programs. Program Managers oversee multiple projects and teams, with certain focus areas depending on programming that is active or emerging at any given time. A specific focus area for the successful candidate will be programming connected to Toronto’s ravines.

Toronto is home to one of the world’s largest ravine systems. Spanning more than 11,000 hectares, the ravines offer residents a chance to connect with nature, while supporting their physical and mental well-being. This Program Manager will lead ravine programming and activations, and will work collaboratively with other program staff on connecting ravine programming to the Evergreen Brick Works site. They will also be responsible for the Loop Trail, a project in collaboration with Evergreen, the City of Toronto and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority that aims to enhance trail connectivity throughout the city by creating a continuous 65-kilometre multi-use trail circuit and by animating through the creation of ravine hubs.

A demonstrated interest in, and/or pervious work experience connected to, parks, ravines and/or placemaking will be considered an asset, as will demonstrated strength in budgeting and partnership development.

About the Role:

Evergreen Program Managers are critical to the development and delivery of Evergreen’s Programs, and have the knowledge, experience and confidence to lead teams and actively engage others in this process. With well-developed project management skills, the Program Manager manages the planning and execution of programming projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and with maximum mission impact. Program Managers prioritize good communication, effective people management and positive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help shape programs, set goals, and create and implement action plans that align with organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with internal partners to effectively promote Evergreen’s programs and share stories of impact
  • Work and collaborate with colleagues on site at Evergreen Brick Works to plan and deliver site-based programming
  • Develop and manage excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, co-designing, implementing and evaluating in partnership
  • Work with Program Director to guide project plans that effectively manage scope, time, cost and risk
  • Continuously evaluate the progress of tasks, responsibilities and projects against timeframes, budget, strategic intent and organizational values
  • Ensure changes to project plans, including budget and schedule, are proactively and effectively managed
  • Identify measures of success, review program milestones, outcomes and impact, and ensure proper evaluation and reporting
  • Work effectively across departments to develop cohesive project teams
  • Undertake people management responsibilities in a thoughtful and professional manner
  • Mentor others and take an active role in their professional development
  • Contribute to positive workplace culture and great internal communication

You have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years in program design, development and delivery
  • Demonstrated track record of program design and project management, including creating and monitoring work plans and budgets
  • Prior experience in facilitation, partnership development, and working with diverse communities and stakeholders
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in a related field i.e. urban planning, design, environmental studies, sustainability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Project Management Software and collaboration platforms such as Wrike, or others
  • Familiarity with design thinking models, software and approaches

  • Supervised by: Program Director
  • Supervises: Program Officers & Coordinators

Working Conditions:

  • Position is usually based out of Evergreen’s head office at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. However, due to the COVID 19 pandemic this position will be working remotely, with on-site presence as needed.
  • Regular office hours (with flexibility), with occasional evenings and weekends required in times of heavy deadlines or to attend special events


  • Permanent, full-time
  • Target Hiring Range: $63,000-$68,000
