Position: Community Programs Coordinator, ActiveDays & NatureLink
Organization: Parkbus
Location: Toronto, Ontario — venturing to greenspaces across Southern Ontario.

Job type: Seasonal position from April 25th to October 31st, 2021, with the possibility of extending to a permanent position. Hours will vary depending on COVID restrictions and will increase during peak season

Wage: $22.00- $28.00 /hr depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours: 5-45 hours/week

We are seeking a community oriented, nature loving, inclusivity minded individual to engage our diverse community in connecting to nature. The Community Programs Coordinator will oversee both ActiveDays and NatureLink programs in Ontario.


Parkbus connects city dwellers with nature through accessible transportation options. Founded in 2010, we operate bus services to National and Provincial Parks from major cities across Canada. We operate community nature and outdoor programs such as ActiveDays and NatureLink helping to increase access through building community.


The Community Programs Coordinator will engage the Ontario community through nature based outings, programs and activities. The coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and delivering both ActiveDays and NatureLink Programs. The Coordinator will continue to build our active community through outdoor programming and activities - predominantly nature based excursions to Ontario greenspaces. The coordinator will help Parkbus to expand and develop the programs to continue to flourish in the changing climate as set by the pandemic.

We are looking for an individual with experience in education, facilitation, guiding and project management. The Community Programs Coordinator must have a passion for the outdoors and an ability to create inclusive spaces for diverse communities. Both ActiveDays and Nature Link use planned outdoor programming to create a community of outdoor enthusiasts that feels inclusive to newcomers, low income families and members of visible minorities

This position is based out of Toronto, Ontario. Most programs will be day trips on weekends throughout the summer — expect to work one or two days outdoors each weekend.


  • Represent Parkbus, on any scheduled ActiveDays and NatureLink trips and community outings
  • Coordinate and Facilitate active, nature-based programs that get participants outside and exploring. Facilitate groups of up to 50 participants from a variety of backgrounds (i.e. people facing cultural/language barriers, and other challenging scenarios) on outings. We lead group hikes, trail runs, workshops and educational excursions that allow individuals to discover beautiful places, meet like-minded people and connect to nature
  • Program Planning: this includes designing new routes, contacting park management, communicating with participants, assessing risk management, tracking participation data
  • Coordinate and Train Staff and volunteers for programs when necessary
  • Community Building is a key component to these programs. These programs aim to create a community of like-minded individuals who have a passion to get outside and explore. Facilitating open conversations and creating an environment of inclusion is central to the role.
  • Collaborate with Community Partners including settlement agencies, MEC, Ontario Parks, Conservation Authorities and more.
  • Engage our Online Community through social media, and creative online activities
  • Facilitate seasonal events to celebrate community
  • Submit written reports on all trips
  • Possibility of creating and publishing content on Parkbus and ActiveDays communication tools
  • Source, prepare, and gather program materials when necessary
  • Build relationships with like-minded community organizations
  • Write grant proposals
  • Handle the risk management duties of taking groups of people into the outdoors.


  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Experience working within groups and experience leading groups of people are strong assets.
  • Experience coordinating programs
  • An interest in education, community building and the outdoors
  • Individuals who have held leadership positions in outdoor environments are an asset. Experience working with groups of people in an outdoor setting and/or experience facilitating workshops and programs for groups.
  • A passion for the outdoors — a knowledge of local trails and outdoor spaces in and around Toronto.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must have experience working with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to juggle multiple administrative duties
  • Good command of English, fluency in a second language is an asset
  • First Aid (Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) or willingness to become certified
  • Other outdoor guiding and safety certifications an asset.
