FUNDRAISING DEVELOPMENT

Position: Development Coordinator - Database Conversion, Fundraising (mid-level position)
Organization: Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust
Location: Newmarket / GTA ON (hybrid remote working; on-site for fundraising, landowner recognition and events)  

Type: Employment Contract - Full-time
Salary Range: $50,000-55,000/year, plus benefits (Health insurance coverage starting at 3 month period)
Hours per week: 37.5
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

The Position:

The Development Coordinator is responsible for donor database conversion and ongoing maintenance and updates, communications, outreach and grant opportunities with foundations and corporations.

Work efforts in all program areas are intricately connected and require coordination and understanding of the strategic direction and objectives of the Trust.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Development Coordinator is required to perform a range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Maintain donor database and email database (MailChimp) and generate reports as needed.
  • Maintain and enhance electronic and hard copy files in support of the fundraising activities of the Trust to complement donor database.
  • Lead development and implementation of various revenue sources including donor and corporate programs.
  • Draft prospect files, cases for support, funding applications and other appropriate correspondence for grant opportunities from corporate and foundation sources.
  • Build donor relationships via phone, email, social media, website and direct mail.
  • Create communications pieces to maintain and build relationships with members and donors.
  • Support refinement of the Trust’s long-term fund development plans and approaches for the Fundraising and Outreach committee.
  • Development, organization and delivery of events as needed.
  • Expand professional knowledge to stay current on fundraising trends.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of donor information.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications

The ability to communicate effectively in English is required. The position requires the ability to attend periodic monthly evening meetings and weekend events and to be able to travel the extent of the Oak Ridges Moraine independently. The following requirements are provided for guidance and it is understood that the preferred candidate may not meet all specified requirements.

Education and Experience

  • University or college degree in fundraising, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • 3 or more years of experience in fundraising, revenue and business development or related fields.
  • Experience with public speaking and verbal presentations with a variety of audiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of and proven skills in communications and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a database conversion process
  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs for:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and PowerPoint
    • Database Management
    • CRM platform
  • Ability to prepare written reports and proposals.
  • Proven oral and written presentation skills.
  • Skilled at determining activities to move the fundraising program forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.
  • High attention to detail. Please demonstrate by noting a feature of the Oak Ridges Moraine in the first paragraph of your covering letter.
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license, access to reliable transportation and suitable insurance coverage.

Other desirable Skill sets:

  • Knowledge of special events planning and management.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code.
  • Familiar with the features, significance and applicable provincial legislation of the Oak Ridges Moraine and Greenbelt
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Land Trust movement and natural heritage protection.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of charity and not-for-profit operations.

  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
