Contract Part-time Seasonal, Gardening Teacher (grades 1 to 8)

You DO NOT NEED to know how to grow food or have any gardening experience. You DO NEED to be passionate about Kids’ Growing City’s mission and willing to learn. If you are selected for the position you will receive all the training you need.
We believe this job fits perfectly stay-at-home parents who are looking for part-time exciting job to make a positive impact and also to earn a small side income, during school hours when their children are at school. You DON’T HAVE TO BE a parent though. Main criteria we are looking for is passion for the cause and willingness to put in the work.
You need to be able, nimble and energetic to handle classrooms of up to 30 students, Inside the classroom and outside in the garden. You will have help from 2 other adults; your teacher assistant (also contract employee of Kids’ Growing City) and the homeroom teacher at the school.
Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence is a must to drive to and between schools in the GTA. This position requires transportation of small soil bags, a tools wagon and other materials and supplies from our material hub to and between schools. Access to a vehicle is a must for that purpose. PLEASE DON’T APPLY otherwise!
This is a contract, part-time, seasonal job which starts with only up to 20 hours/week, for only 10 weeks in spring and 10 weeks in fall (No classes in winter or summer). We are very flexible when assigning class times before the start of every season. You can choose how many days in a week you want to work. But commitment is expected from you after program schedule is confirmed with the schools and you have agreed to the assignment.
Absences under urgent circumstances are of course understood and supply or session cancelation can be arranged for as long as the absence is communicated with your coordinator with reasonable timing.
Programs run in different schools throughout the GTA. Every program runs for 10 weeks in spring (beginning of April to end of June) and 10 weeks in fall (early-September to end of November).
Compensation is $35/hour. Payment is made for number of hours of teaching in the classrooms + 1 hour of prep time per school, per day.
For example if you teach 3 classes in a school on Tuesday mornings, your pay for that school will be 4X$35=$140 per day. If you also teach 2 classes in a second school on Tuesday afternoons, your pay for that school will be 3X$35=$105 per day. In this example, in total, you will earn $245 for each Tuesday.
