Position: Lead ECE

Hundred Acre Wood Forest Preschool is launching in October 2019 and we are ready to add to our team! If you are an experienced RECE who is passionate about nature-based learning and you love taking little ones outside All THE TIME, then read on!

We are a licensed non-profit preschool centre in Heathcote ON. We are situated on 100 acres of meadow and forested land, with an indoor facility that reflects our outdoor learning philosophy.

The lead ECE have the opportunity to join our team in creating the indoor and outdoor learning environments throughout the months of July-September. Once the centre opens on Monday September 30th, the Lead ECE will oversee both the toddler and preschool classrooms, while serving as the full time educator for one of those classrooms. The lead ECE will guide the teaching team in delivering a program that is play-based, nature-based, inquiry based, and meets the requirements of the regulatory bodies overseeing Early Years Childhood Education in Ontario.


  • Two-year Community College Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • At least 5 years experience working in the field of early childhood education
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 6 months
  • Up to date vaccinations
  • Must be physically able to assist children as required – (eg. Lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
  • Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year
  • Must have a working knowledge of centre policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times
  • The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
  • An affinity for the natural world – either some education in this field or self-education and experience is an asset
  • Must take pride and joy in working with toddlers and preschoolers

Job Duties

  • Set up learning environments that invite play-based and nature-based learning
  • Care for and connect with each child
  • Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
  • Lead the program team in keeping up to date with educational expectations of parents and kindergarten programs
  • Be an inspiring resource for educators and students
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff when required
  • Independently manage the centre in collaboration with the director
  • Perform a variety of tasks including administrative as well as cleaning

**This position is conditional upon the centre receiving a Ministry of Education license and a minimum number of registrants by opening day.
