Job Posting: Outdoor Education (“Outdoor Creation Experiences”) Intern

$600 BI-WEEKLY STIPEND (room & board provided)

Who We Are

Located in Beaverton Ontario, Fair Havens Ministries is a Christian, non-profit organization composed of a summer Family Camp, Retreat Centre, Outdoor Christian Education Centre, as well as a Youth Discipleship program.

Our “Outdoor Creation Experiences” Program offers a variety of school programs each season for Christian, Catholic, Public, and Home-School groups. Previously named “Outdoor Christian Education”, we have been providing “Outdoor Creation Experiences” to families and students since 1985. Our Mission is to see people growing in knowledge and experience of God through His Creation. Through curriculum that advances classroom goals, students and staff alike learn to be responsible stewards of the environment. We strive to see people considering a personal relationship with Jesus in character, faith, and reflection through adventure challenges which encourage learning by getting past our comfort zones.

Job Summary

The Internship Program is designed for Christian young adults for the purpose of training future leaders in a variety of ministries. Interns will have opportunities each week to grow in the three pillars of the Stepping Stones Discipleship program: 1) Spiritual Formation, 2) Community Life and 3) Leadership Development.

Under the direction and supervision of the Outdoor Creation Experiences (OCE) Program Directors, Interns in this department will be trained to help teach various educational programs to school groups (activities change each season. Visit for more information)

Key Responsibilities

  • Upon arrival of groups, Interns assist in welcoming, praying for, and giving an introduction tour to guests
  • Interns participate in and instruct a variety of programs that allow students to learn curriculum-related topics (ie., Orienteering, Team-Building, Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Cross-Country Skiing, Canadian history)
  • Contribute new program ideas to update lessons and create new teaching materials
  • Assist in general program and equipment maintenance
  • Host meals and assist “Servant Groups” that are assigned to set tables and clean dishes after meals (on a weekly rotation with other staff)
  • Assist in the operation of the Fair Glen Maple Sugar Bush and primary school (K-3) day visits (Spring only)
  • Assist in hockey rink maintenance and shoveling snow (Winter season)
  • Accompany Fair Glen staff to run a promotions table at teacher conferences (November)
  • Help lead worship and devotional sessions with school groups

Required Skills

  • Must have an interest in nature, environmental stewardship, recreation, teaching, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to take initiative
  • Positive and flexible attitude despite inclement weather
  • Currently hold a valid First Aid and CPR certificate (other required training and certification provided)
