Position: Forest Camp Facilitator
School: Sapling Forest School
Location: Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Sapling Forest School is hiring a Forest Camp Facilitator! Do you enjoy working outdoors? Are you searching for a supportive team environment? Do you have experience working with children? This position might be perfect for you! We work to give children ages 3 - 9 quality outdoor experiences and opportunities to build relationships with land.

Wage: $16/hr
Hours per week: 32 hrs a week (8:00 am - 4:30 pm)
Shifts: Monday – Thursdays. Friday and weekends off.

Education & Experience:

  • First Aid Certification required before first day of work.
  • Post-Secondary Education in areas of education, environmental science, or agriculture preferred but no required.
  • Experience with spending extended hours outdoors in the wilderness in various conditions considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children in outdoor setting an asset


  • Working outdoors for up to 10 hours per day, in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Friendly, positive mindset while working in the forest with groups of children.
  • Ability to work as a part of team to support children during their forest experiences.
  • Enthusiasm and respect for natural world.
  • Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in Canada
  • Ability to build relationships with community partners including local Indigenous groups.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working outdoors for up to 10 hours per day
  • Implement and supervise an Emergent Curriculum based in group and individuals’ interests
  • Assess, Manage and Prevent Risk in an outdoor environment – this includes implementing a Risk/Benefit Assessment and a Dynamic Risk Benefit Assessment
  • Document and report necessary incidents
  • Read aloud and implement other enthusiastic group activities with children daily
  • Prepare for and supervise eating times
  • Guide children’s behaviour using positive behaviour guidance

Applicants must provide references. Applicants must provide a clear code of conduct and a clear vulnerable sector check. First Aid Certification must be valid before first day of work.
