ORGANIC VEGETABLE FARMING

Position: Organic Vegetable Production Lead Hand

Location: Essa, near Barrie & Alliston, 1 hour north of Toronto, Ontario. Own transportation required.

Cookstown Greens is a family-run certified organic farm growing a selection of microgreens and root vegetables. We take great pride in the quality and flavour of our vegetables, which come from our healthy and nutrient-rich soil.

In recent years, Cookstown Greens has exploded as a sustainable family-run business. Our recent successes and farm growth can be attributed to efficiencies across the entire farm operation, including improved growing practices, better equipment and continued investments in our infrastructure.

Cookstown Greens operates year round with the constant flow or work throughout all seasons.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITES:

Cookstown Greens is looking for an indivual to fullfill our Organic Vegetable Production Lead Hand position.

You have some previous supervisory and produce experience; and are enthusiacstic about quality, local, organic produce.

You can lead by example; you can hustle, you thrive in a face paced environment

You have strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. You are tuned into quality control, eye for detail and efficiency

You will work closely with the farm manager and operation manager

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

• To observe and learn Cookstown Greens as a farm and as business
• Primary goal is to learnOperation Manager's basic roles and responsibilities within the day to day operations (calling customers, entering orders into quickbooks and expediting packing tasks)
• Sorting, grading & packing vegetables in the main packing shed
• Harvesting, washing & packing microgreens when required
• Keeping an eye on quality control (including record keeping)
• Responsible for packing customer orders in preparation for next day deliveries
• Flexibility within farm tasks - to help out where needed & when needed
• Delivery driver backup & Farmers’ Market backup

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a full time year round postion, start date is flexible with preference by June 2022.

Work schedule is Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. 36-40 hours per week with flexibity to permit weekend work as needed. Weekend work required in the months of December and January

Compensation - $16-18 per hour based on experienceplus 4% vacation and access to farm produce.
