Hiring: Garden-to-table staff
Resort: Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort and Retreat Centre
Location: near Englishtown/Indian Brook, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia
Housing: some on-site shared housing is available for rent
Please join our dynamic staff as our garden-to-table person this season (early May through mid-October, 2023), and help us grow a good amount of veggies for our restaurant, while spending an unforgettable summer and fall on our beloved island. Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort and Retreat is located on the Atlantic side of the Cabot Trail. We are a destination for hikers, swimmers, kayakers, birders and wildlifers, musicians (or those who enjoy music) practitioners of yoga, Qi Gong, meditation and other forms of wellness practices and more (all of which are open to our staff, subject to availability). Our guest accommodations include Mongolian yurts, geodesic domes, chalets and a lodge as well as a small camp ground.
The work entails building up existing garden beds and creating new ones, caring for seedlings, planting, weeding, feeding, watering, composting, collecting and distributing seaweed mulch, harvesting and processing vegetables and fruits (apples, berries) for the restaurant kitchen and more.
Some gardening experience is helpful but you will receive training. Your enthusiasm, willingness to work hard no matter the weather, and receive constructive feedback are what is most needed.
You may also be involved in mowing lawns, helping with firewood, hot tubs, landscaping and other outdoor projects. Alternatively you may also help in the kitchen, or assist in guided hikes and kayaking, depending on your skills and what the place needs.
Wage depends on your level of experience.
There is some shared staff housing available for rent which includes access to kitchen, living room and bathroom, as well as utilities and wifi (and the resort facilities mentioned above).
If interested, please send your resume plus two references (name, phone number and email address) to barbara@cabotshores.com , after which we will set up an interview via FaceTime, WhatsApp or phone (or in person if you happen to be in the neighbourhood). Please indicate you saw this posting at GoodWork.
