ORGANIC FARMING

Jobs: Farm Crew on Organic Farm
Farm: River and Sea Flowers
Location: Delta/Westham Island/Greater Vancouver BC
Term: April — Nov. 2020, part-time & full-time (see below)

Are you looking for a farm job for the 2020 season? Are you interested in learning about organic cut flower production? The local organic flower movement is just beginning, a decade or more behind the organic and slow food movements. About 80% of flowers sold in Canada are imported, with many flown in from places with poor environmental regulations. Locally grown organic flowers are the response to this!

River and Sea Flowers is a small family farm growing certified organic cut flowers on beautiful Westham Island in Delta BC, just 30 km from Vancouver. Established on shared family land in 2016, we grow a huge diversity of flowers on just over an acre, split between the field and a few stationary and rolling hoop houses. Our harvest season goes from April right through to November. We attend farmer’s markets, supply florists, run a CSA bouquet program, supply bulk buckets of flowers to special events and offer designed floral work for weddings. We are focussed on growing high quality cut flowers in an efficient and ecologically responsible way, and use both tractors and hand tools to get the job done. Our team of 3-5 people work hard, get dirty and enjoy the reward of bringing beautiful organic flowers to the world.

We offer a shared bright, warm and dry lunchroom with a kitchen, a 45 minute lunch break, flexible scheduled start times in the mornings, and a farm work environment shared with two other organic farm operations. You’ll also be able to take home plenty of flowers to share, enjoy for yourself or to hang and dry. Please email Rachel at riverandseaflowers@gmail.com if you have any questions about this position.
