LOCAL FOOD JOBS

Position: Farm Assistant
Farm: Green Being Farm
Location: Neustadt, Ontario (accommodation available)
Type: Part Time Winter Farm Assistant - possibility of year-round employment

Green Being Farm is seeking a part time farm assistant beginning in December. Responsibilities include washing, packing and delivering CSA shares, as well as greenhouse work. Time commitment is 2 to 2.5 days/week, and there is some flexibility in terms of what days you would work. We have an apartment on the farm available for rent, which is covered by your salary, with a bit of pocket change left over.

This is a great opportunity for someone just finishing up seasonal work on a farm and looking to spend the winter in a peaceful and private environment. You are welcome to apply as a pair and share the responsibilities and the rent. The apartment is warm and cozy, and equipped with high speed, with a pond for skating and well situated for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc. It's the perfect place to decompress after an intense farming season!

If it's a good fit we would welcome you to stay on for the 2022 growing season. Many people have come here and continued part time work year-round and used their exra time to work on one of the other neighbouring organic farms (we can connect you). You also have the option of incubating your own farm business on our land!

Wage: $15/hr + veggies, eggs and (some) meat from our farm.
Requirements: Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs as this job does involve lifting. Driver's license (and ample experience driving) also necessary.

About the farm:

Green Being Farm (est. 2008) is run by Tarrah Young and Nathan Carey and located in Neustadt, ON. We have a 100 member Winter CSA and a 65 member Spring CSA We also have a beautiful herd of rare breed grassfed beef, and we raise pastured poultry and pastured pigs (most years.) We have a history of supporting startup farmers on our land to pilot their own farm businesses. For this reason we are a great stepping stone for people with farming experience who would like to take the next step towards starting their own business in a low-risk environment. We are well-networked in the local organic farming community which you will benefit from as a new farmer. Tarrah also has extensive experience as a farm educator.

To Apply:

Please reach out to arrange to chat about the position in more detail! Or go ahead and send your questions and/or resume along with references and a summary of what you are looking for- winter work only or if you might be interested in staying for the whole season. If you'd like to visit the farm, let us know and we can arrange a tour.
