Position: Organic Farming & Ecotourism Assistant

About Hearts Content

We have been farming organically for 17 years. Our farm is on the rail trail between Hamilton and Brantford. We focus on medicinal herbs, wildcrafting, planting and caring for trees, and ecotourism with a focus on wheelchair accessible farmstay units. This summer we are preparing to restore a wetland. We also:

  • care for the Langford Schoolhouse ( which we help to operate as a community hall (grounds work, cleaning the hall, renovations, showing the hall),
  • work to create a welcoming community for migrant farm workers (food drops, helping Mexican migrant farm workers to learn english, and restoring bikes for migrant farm workers).

Job Description:

We are looking for a creative, flexible, hard working individual to assist with:

Farm and eco-tourism related work

  • farm duties such as tending the garden, landscaping, general labour, and prepping and maintaining units and campsites for guests

Sustainability and conservation related practices

  • sorting unsold food for distribution in the migrant farm workers community,
  • planning and restoring a wetland,
  • tree care,
  • removing invasive species
Community outreach with migrant farm workers 
  • including but not limited to, food drops, arranging private shopping trips at the local thrift store, creating and delivering care packages, providing recreational opportunities (e.g. fishing trips, providing bicycles), and teaching English to Mexican farm workers.


  • Previous experience working with farm machinery 
  • Carpentry and/or drywall experience 
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Patois

This is a physically demanding job. We are a smoke free farm

COVID19 precautions: We are very conscientious about safety during Covid19. PPEs will be provided for use if working in closed spaces or within 2 meters of each other. Periodic COVID19 tests may be required.


  • 8 week position.
  • Must be between 18 and 30 years old. Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Pay: $15.00/hr for 35 hours per week.
Housing: is available at $600/month. This is wheelchair accessible housing.
