ORGANIC FARMING

Position: Lead Farm Hand
Organization: Lost Savanna Farm
Location: Black Creek BC (Vancouver Island, between Campbell River & Courtenay)

Lost Savanna Farm is a Certified Organic, Pasture-Based Regenerative farm on Vancouver Island, producing Chicken, Pork, Beef and Eggs. Lost Savanna is currently recruiting for role of Lead Farm Hand starting June 4th. This is a full time position, the starting wage is $15 and will increase after the initial training period is complete. 

Successful candidate should:

  • have an interest in organic food and farming

  • show strong initiative

  • have excellent communication skills

  • have some leadership experience

  • pay close attention to detail

  • have some prior machine/equipment/tool training or experience

  • be willing to work off hours and weekends

  • be able to lift and carry 50lbs (23kg)

  • possess a valid BC Driver's Licence 

As lead farm hand you:

  • will be working with multiple species of livestock in a pasture setting on a daily basis

  • will work with various types of equipment including tractor, skid steer, truck and trailer, hand tools.

  • you will learn to lead a small crew of workers on various farm tasks

  • will be involved in other aspects of the farm that could include selling product, packing/labeling product, farmers market vending, deliveries, orchard/garden work, euthanizing sick animals and slaughtering.

ABOUT US

Our 73 acre Certified Organic, Certified Demeter farm is devoted to raising animals on pasture to produce the highest quality meat (chicken, pork and beef) and eggs. The farm is a diverse mix of pasture, silvopasture, forest, orchard, household garden, ponds and wetlands. We sell our meat primarily through a monthly meat box and at the farmers markets on Saturdays. We love sharing our passion for regenerative agriculture with travelers from around the world, on Sundays nights we enjoy an evening at the firepit outside, Monday nights we host a group dinner in our home. LOCATION AND AMENITIES

Working at Lost Savanna you will get to experience life in one of the most beautiful places in Canada — Vancouver Island. The Comox Valley area around us has beautiful beaches, rivers, forests, hiking, snowboarding/skiing, surfing, whale watching, fishing and more.

On farm housing is available to rent and includes use of common areas and utilities (electricity, wifi, heat, etc.) 

We are located about a 10 minute car ride to the closest amenities and 20 minutes from Courtenay, a city of 30,000 people. A personal vehicle is suggested if you want to explore Vancouver Island. If you don't bring a vehicle, there are bus systems to get you around and we have bikes for your use.
