Responsibilites

The Deputy Field Manager will gradually take over management of the farm’s field operations including:

• Establishing weekly work priorities and todo lists (via weekly field tours with Jonathan and Jolianne).
• Managing the Field Crew: Preparing daily tasks lists, training, follow-up on worker’s speed and quality of execution, and managing the daily workflow with special attention to transitions.
• Working with the Crew, setting a good example.
• Keeping the farm and work spaces orderly and beautiful.
• Take part in the winter planning process including planning the crops and ordering all the necessary inputs, tools, and materials for the following year.
• Collaboration with the other members of the management team as needed: Owners, Marketing, Admin, Greenhouse Manager, Farm Store Manager, etc.

Evolution over time

Given the complexity and the critical nature of this role, we envision a gradual evolution of the role over 2 years; Starting simple and taking on more and more responsibility over time.

The Deputy Field Manager position is initially a 2 year contract leading to a permanent Senior Field Manager role starting in the 3rd year (conditional on our mutual agreement).

As of the 5th year, you will have the opportunity to purchase shares in the business.
The first year will be a training year. Working closely with Jonathan and Jolianne, you will learn the intricacies of our management methods.

In the second year, you will step more fully into the management role with the goal of Jonathan and Jolianne taking a 4-6 week mini-sabbatical during the summer.

In year 3, Jonathan and Jolianne will be taking a 1 yr sabbatical, leaving you full responsibility for field production.

Compensation

Year 1: $30 000 - $40 000 annual salary (depending on experience) paid in 12 monthly payments.

Year 2: Performance based raise, plus the addition of an annual bonus based on the farm’s profitability.

As of year 5: Opportunity to purchase shares in the business.

Group benefits and dental insurance available.

Schedule

• +/- 2000 hrs/year
• Summer: 40-60 hrs/week (target of 5 days/week barring emergencies)
• Winter: 10-30 hrs/week
• 4 weeks paid vacation in winter (January)

Required Superpowers:

• The ability to receive and integrate large amounts of detailed feedback in an open minded and curious manner.
• Physical strength, endurance, and grit to work in the hot sun, the cold rain, day after day, doing the gloriously repetitive work of growing food. (The ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively.)
• Positive, HIGH VIBE energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor!
• A strong sense of organisation and time management
• The ability and willingness to give instructions and feedback in a clear and empowering manner.
• Clear and concise communication style.
• Fast, efficient, and ergonomic work ethic.

Criteria:

• 3-5 years of market gardening experience with at least 2 years on reputable farms.
• Excellent ability to speak and read English.
• Ability to receive and integrate a large volume of "feedback" without taking it personally.

Responsabilités

Le directeur adjoint de production prendra progressivement en charge le département de production maraîchère incluant:

• Établissement de priorités hebdomadaires en concertation avec Jo et Jo (tours des champs chaque semaine pour établir les actions nécessaires planche par planche.)
• Gestion de l’équipe de champs incluant: la préparation de la liste des tâches pour chaque employée, la formation et le suivi de la qualité et la rapidité de travail de l’équipe et la gestion des transitions entre les différentes tâches.
• Travailler avec l’équipe de champs… montrant le bon exemple.
• Maintenir l’ordre et la beauté dans tous les aspects de la ferme.
• Participation au travail hivernal de planification des cultures et de la commande de tous les intrants, matériel et équipements nécessaires pour l’année suivante.
• Collaboration avec les autres membres de l'équipe de gestion: Propriétaires, Marketing, Administration, Serriculteur, Gérant du Magasin, etc.
• Travail de bureau: préparation du contenu du panier, feuilles de récolte, compilation des données, rapports, permis, certification, etc….

Évolution du poste dans le temps

Etant donné la complexité du rôle, notre vision est que ce poste évolue au fils du temps et que la personne prendra en charge de plus en plus de responsabilités au fur et à mesure du développement de leurs capacité de gestion.

Le poste d'adjoint(e) est initialement un poste de 2 ans qui pourra mener par la suite à un poste de 3 ans de directeur/ice de production.

À partir de la 5eme année vous aurez l’option d’acheter des parts dans l’entreprise.

La première année sera une année d'apprentissage en travaillant directement avec les propriétaires.
La deuxième année vous prendriez plus de responsabilités autonomes et les propriétaires prendraient une mini-sabbatique 4-6 semaines vers la fin de l’été.
Lors de la troisième année, les propriétaires prévoient de partir en année sabbatique à partir du 1 Août vous laissant ainsi pleine responsabilité en tant que Directeur de Production (avec autant de rencontres virtuelles/téléphoniques que nécessaire, bien sur).

Rénumeration

1ere année: Salaire annuel de 30 000$ - 40 000$ par an selon votre expérience payée en 12 paiement égaux.
À partir de la 2ème année: Augmentation annuelle selon la performance plus un participation à un pourcentage des profits.
À partir de la 5eme année: Option d’acheter des parts de l’entreprise.

Assurance santé/dentaire collectif disponible.

Horaire:

• +/- 2000 hrs/année
• Été: 40-60 hrs/semaine (objectif de 5 jours/semaine à la ferme mise à part les urgences)
• Hiver 10-30 hrs/semaine
• 4 semaines de vacances payées en hiver (Janvier).

Critères:

• 3-5 ans d'expérience maraîchère avec au moins 2 ans sur des ferme réputables.
• Excellente capacité à parler et lire l’anglais.
• Capacité de recevoir et d'intégrer un grand volume de ‘feedback’ sans prendre ça personnel.
