Position: Farmer and Processing Coordinator – Organic Farm
Farm: Earth to Table: The Farm
Location: Ancaster, near Hamilton, Ontario

In a nutshell:

Earth to Table: The Farm is an organic vegetable farm specializing in wholesale produce for the restaurant market. On our 1.5 acres of production in Ancaster, Ontario we grow top-quality vegetables (including arugula, lettuce, culinary herbs, tomatoes, carrots, and a handful of others) for fine dining restaurants located in the surrounding community.

We’re committed to building soil organic matter and are transitioning towards minimal tillage, growing on deep compost covered raised beds.

The Farm is a fast-paced, exciting environment, and an excellent place to learn and share skills with enthusiastic and knowledgeable team members.

This is a full-time contract position that starts late May and concludes at the end of October 2020. A variety of non-agricultural winter employment opportunities are available.

Once here you will:

You will assist in all aspects of the farm operation, including planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, packaging, food safety, public engagement, and record keeping.

Once trained, you will be responsible for reviewing weekly wholesale orders, checking field inventory, organizing daily harvest plans, supervising produce washing, processing, packaging, and pick-ups.

With the Field Manager, you will also take part in soil health research, related fieldwork, analysis, and evaluation.

We have many visitors to the farm and you will assist in leading tours and interacting with the public when necessary.

At The Farm, we provide the opportunity for you to gain experience in all aspects of a bio-intensive, human-scale agriculture using minimal till/no-till production practices in a cooperative work environment.

You will be an integral player of our small, hard-working team, delivering vegetables to nine fine dining restaurants, which all celebrate local and sustainable ingredients.

Working here, you will actively participate in research aimed at quantifying soil health improvements and vegetable variety trials. As the farm develops into an educational center, you will have support to create teachable experiences for The Farm’s growing community.
