Position: Farm Manager
Organization: Cameron Family Farms

Cameron Family Farms is a 90-acre mixed vegetable certified organic farm located just north of Courtenay, BC. There are 45 acres of land available for crop production along with approximately 16,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses. The farm borders beautiful Seal Bay Park, a 530 acre publicly owned nature reserve.

The farm currently produces a range of vegetables including asparagus, tomatoes, root vegetables, onions, peppers, cucumbers, garlic and kale primarily for sale to restaurant and wholesale customers. In future it may include blueberries, along with other perennial crops that are being considered.

Position Description

The Farm Manager will manage all day-to-day farm operations, sales and marketing of products and all property oversight. The ideal candidate must be able to exhibit a growth mindset, good leadership qualities, and an understanding of the pace and work ethic required for successful production farming.


  • Work with the farm leadership team to ensure farm production and quality goals are met, and assist in developing a multiyear crop plan
  • Aid in developing and lead the implementation of a long term strategy for farm operations
  • Responsible for farm operations including crop planning, yields, production schedules, equipment and employee supervision
  • Oversee the marketing and sales of crops to wholesale and restaurant customers
  • Recruit, hire and manage day to day and seasonal farm staff
  • Operate farm equipment including tractors and farm implements
  • Oversight of landscaping, equipment and building maintenance
  • Direct all field operations, including cultivation, irrigation, planting, transplanting, harvesting, and post harvest operations
  • Facilitate a respectful, communicative and team-oriented work environment
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well organized environment for staff and customers
  • Holistically manage soil fertility (cover cropping, crop rotation, and compost program), nutrient cycling, and weed, pest, and disease management
  • Maintain production and sales records and compliance with organic certification and food safety regulations, and ensure permits are kept up to date
  • Contribute to the farm business planning by providing input and expertise on cropping systems, varieties, inputs, equipment and capital improvements
  • Support overall operations as a member of the farm leadership team through active participation in meetings, progress reports, collaboration and good communication
  • Manage and oversee all irrigation needs and repairs
  • Ensure necessary supplies and parts are available for farm production and equipment repair

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with organic or sustainable agriculture focus
  • At least two years of farm management level experience required, with experience in field crops and greenhouse systems
  • Ability to work with competing priorities and the demands of managing large crews of people in an efficient and friendly way
  • Ability to work quickly, multi-task, self motivate, collaborate, and be flexible on a daily basis
  • Demonstrated experience with operating and maintaining machinery
  • Knowledge of current organic research, emerging trends and technology in organic farming
  • Solid administrative skills, including the ability to work with spreadsheets and farm management software
  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Strong organizational skills


This is a full-time, year-round position with the main season running from March 1st to December 1st, with a reduced and flexible off-season winter schedule. A competitive salary is available and is dependent on experience, plus on-site housing, utilities, internet, and farm produce for personal use.
