Providence Farm is located just 5 minutes east of the city of Duncan. Our property is located at the base of the storied Mount Tzouhalem, and is nestled between Quamichan Lake to the North-West and Cowichan Bay to the South.
On our 400-acre organic farm, we grow a wide variety of vegetables, flowers and herbs, and also raising cattle, pigs, chickens, alpacas, sheep, a goat and a donkey. Since 2012 all major agricultural field work is part of a ‘social enterprise’ allowing the Farm to fully utilise commercial opportunities to maximise improvements in our core programming. Everything grown is used to help sustain those who work at the Farm while also providing produce and products to local restaurants and numerous farmers markets. The farm has steadily built a reputation for high quality produce and beautiful and abundant farm stand displays at the popular Duncan Farmers’ Market (at which we are the only vendor to have attended since the first season over 25 years ago).
Beyond a commitment to growing organic and sustainably produced food, Providence Farm is a therapeutic community that provides therapeutic programs for adults and seniors with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health challenges and age-related illnesses. Today there are 35 full-time and part-time staff and approximately 180 spaces for individuals to participate in the Farm’s therapeutic programming each week.
