Position: Administrative Assistant
Reports to: Office Manager
Organization: Kawartha Land Trust
Location: Peterborough, Ontario

Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Dates: Contract until Dec. 31, 2019 with potential for renewal.

Compensation: $17-$19/hour based on experience.

The Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) is a dynamic land conservation charity with an impressive record of growth. Our mission is “caring for lands entrusted to us and helping others protect the land they love in the Kawarthas”. We do this by accepting donations of ecologically significant lands and by engaging the community in support of this work through gifts of time and money to ensure those lands are cared for, in perpetuity.

Our successes have been achieved through the work of our dedicated volunteers and donors, supported by our core staff. We are seeking an individual who will enthusiastically engage in the work of the KLT by actively participating in communication and outreach activities. The successful candidate will have a professional attitude, good interpersonal and communication skills, and good problem-solving and analytical abilities.


The Administrative Assistant will be the first point of contact for incoming enquiries both electronically, by phone and in person. They will provide vital administrative and front line support to KLT staff and volunteers. Duties will be related to general office administration; communication, volunteer and event support; and information / data management.

Skills and Proficiencies

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
  3. Demonstrated proficiency and comfort in required office applications/systems:
    1. Strong database management skills (preferably SUMAC or other CRMS);
    2. Social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube);
    3. Web communication tools (Constant Contact and/or Mail Chimp systems, WordPress, Survey Monkey);
    4. Computer skills including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
    5. Multi-line phone systems.
  4. Ability to learn new skills on the job.
  5. Effective time management skills and experience.
  6. Ability to work with minimal direction/supervision, as well as contribute as part of a team.
  7. Willingness to work flexible hours and accommodate unplanned requests.
  8. Valid Ontario drivers licence with access to a vehicle an asset
  9. Skills and knowledge normally consistent with a post-secondary degree or diploma or demonstrated experience in administrative assistant roles.
  10. Knowledge and experience in land conservation an asset.
