nursing teamCamp Kawartha is a not-for-profit organization, 30 minutes northeast of Trent University, Peterborough, providing summer camp for the months of July and August. We are accredited with the Ontario Camping Association.

We have day and overnight camps for 125 campers, aged 4 – 17. We are seeking a fun, eager to learn, children loving student nurse. You will be the nurses’ assistant for the entire summer working along side registered nursing staff. You will live on site in staff housing for the summer.

Job Description:

  • Working collaboratively with the Registered Nurse on site, Summer Camp Director, senior staff and counsellors.
  • Assisting Health Care Coordinator with the set up and organization of the Camp Health Centre.
  • Assisting registered nurse with initial assessment of campers and medication organization and storage on registration days.
  • Assisting registered nurse with assessment and treatment of ill or injured campers and staff.
  • Assisting registered nurse with medication administration.
  • Driving campers and staff to doctor's office or emergency department for further assessment and treatment. Be the liaison between physician and camp nurse.
  • Assisting office staff with organization of health files pre and post camp sessions.
  • Set up and maintain first aid packs for use on and off site.
  • Assisting with the development of fun, interactive health care programs.

Date of Employment: June 1, 2020 – August 26, 2020

Compensation: Dependent on experience and year of nursing education. To be discussed.

Required Up to Date:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR Health Care Provider / BLS and AED
  • Up to Date: Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • **Drivers License with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in rain or shine, day and night on uneven ground.
  • Working with a wide range of ages of children and understanding their stages of development.
  • Using nursing skills and first aid skills on a daily basis.
  • Driving children and other staff members to the doctor's office or the emergency department will be required on an "as needed basis".
  • Must be able to adapt and be flexible, as you will be working with a different RN each week.
  • Must be a good team player and be able to work and live with young counseling staff who are in a leadership position.
  • Must like having fun!
