OTTAWA JOBS

Position: Storyteller and Grant Writer
Organization: Nature Canada
Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Start date: the position will be open until the right candidate is found
Duration: one year contract with possibility of renewal
Hours: Flexibility for full or part time
Salary: 65-75k/year

About Nature Canada:

Nature Canada connects the dots between local action and systemic change. For more than 80 years, we have been Canada’s voice for nature. We work to ensure that solving the biodiversity crisis is a government priority. We advocate on behalf of other species for habitat protection and good policy. We facilitate mobilization among our extensive network of partners and individual nature-lovers to achieve our shared goals and generate the political will for needed transformation.

Job Description:

Nature Canada is doing some very cool and important work. We need help in telling our story, both to potential funders and to more general audiences. We are searching for someone who has experience in grant writing, with an understanding of the types of information that potential funders want and need when considering us. So much of this work really is storytelling and so someone with less formal experience in grant writing but experience in unearthing and telling compelling stories could be a terrific fit. Whatever time isn’t spent on grant writing will be lent to our communications team, as we always have interesting projects going on that could be highlighted on our website, in our newsletter, or in the media. This may look like you interviewing our program staff or partners to uncover hidden gems of stories. So if you are of a journalistic bent with a dash of fundraising, this could be the perfect job for you.

The position is based in Ottawa, where we hope to one day return to our office space on Bank Street. In the meantime - the position will be remote. This position will be under the supervision of our Deputy Executive Director.

Summary of Qualifications and Experience:

When assessing your application, we will look for:

  • Relevant education or life experience
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • A people-person who is outgoing and friendly
  • Detail oriented, collaborative and able to self-organize
  • Strong time management skills, ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time
  • Commitment to the mission, values and work of Nature Canada

To Apply:

To apply for this position, please send a CV highlighting your relevant skills and a one-page cover letter describing why you want this job and a sample of your writing to info@naturecanada.ca with “Storyteller & Grant Writer” in the subject line.

We encourage applications from members of equity-seeking groups. Nature Canada is committed to a workplace free from discrimination, harassment and intimidation where everyone can participate safely, freely and confidently.
