The Resources and Infrastructure Associate (RIA) acts as the technical support and secondary contact for natural resource development, management and policy activities, as well as related infrastructure and land use (planning) activities across the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory. A core function of this position is to support the Resources and Infrastructure Manager (RIM) in carrying-out SON’s consultation process and ensure that the duty to consult is properly scoped and fulfilled and SON’s rights, interests, and Territory (lands, waters, wildlife, areas of cultural / ancestral significance) are protected. The types of natural resources and land use / infrastructure activities in SON Territory are diverse and large in scope, and include but are not limited to: aggregate operations (approvals, policy, environmental protection), shoreline developments/alterations (in-water works), municipal developments and zoning amendments, forestry management, wildlife management (e.g., black bear), and species at risk. Consultation on these issues includes but is not limited to engagement with: Parks Canada, conservation authorities, MNRF, MECP, MCTS, DFO, CWS, municipal governments (including Bruce County & Grey County), NCC, Ontario Nature. Any specific expertise or experience in these fields is considered an asset. Experience with GIS applications is considered an asset.
This role (under the supervision and direction of the RIM) may be assigned specific tasks or files based on skill-set and will support the RIM in corresponding with proponents of development/activities, government and non-government organizations, coordinating technical reviews, coordinating discussions and meetings between SON and proponents/government, and coordinating/conducting site visits.
The RIA will coordinate and prepare for meetings and engagement with SON Joint Committees, SON Joint Council, and the SON Community at-large.
