Position: Lands Manager
Organization: Wuikinuxv Nation Stewardship Office
Location: Vancouver/ Vancouver Island, BC

The Wuikinuxv Nation is looking for a self-motivated and experienced individual to work with the Wuikinuxv Stewardship Office and community in the management of land and forest resources within Wuikinuxv Nation territory. We are looking for someone who is an organized, diligent professional with a conservation ethic and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful applicant will have practical experience with project management, obtaining funding through grants and/or foundations, and understanding natural resource laws and policies.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Post Secondary degree or diploma in natural resource/land management, ecology, environmental studies, conservation biology, geography, native studies, or related field of study;
  • Experience working in natural resource stewardship and/or land use planning;
  • Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication;
  • Experience managing field crews or supervising employees, including annual planning and day-to-day leadership;
  • Experience with project management and report writing;
  • Physical fitness and a willingness to work outside in a variety of conditions;
  • Computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word & Excel

Additional assets:

  • Familiarity with Wuikinuxv Territory and stewardship values;
  • Awareness of First Nations laws, rights and title, issues and traditional ecological knowledge;
  • Experience working with First Nation communities;
  • Experience & knowledge working with referral response & tracking systems and ArcGIS;
  • Understanding of ecosystem-based forest management;
  • Experience writing land or protected area management plans;
  • Experience working with First Nations, stakeholders, and government agencies;
  • Ability to travel for work

Position details:

  • Full Time position – starting as 6 month contract with strong potential for long-term position depending on performance
  • Position Location – successful candidate may work remotely, but with ability to easily travel to the Central Coast.
  • Desired Start Date – December 2019 or January 2020
  • Wage – $55,000 – 68,000 + benefits will commensurate with experience and education
  • Reports directly to Stewardship Director and works collaboratively with all members of Stewardship Team.
