Position: Outreach and Education Coordinator
Organization: Anarres Natural Health Apothecary
Location: on-site at Bloor West near Dufferin Station, Toronto ON
Dates: asap until March 31, 2022 / 25 hours/week 

The Outreach and Education Coordinator will coordinate the Work Exchange and Apprenticeship and Workshops Programs with the instructor, Tracey TieF. All workshops incorporate environmental health education, focussed around making affordable, body and planet-friendly body care and cleaning products using safe, natural, local and fairly traded ingredients. The hands-on approach ensures that participants are able to recreate the products we make and take away during the workshops. Outreach will focus on the immediate communities within the GTA but will incorporate online outreach through the website and social media.

MISSION: Anarres Natural Health's mission is to educate people about natural healthy fairly traded and local botanical ingredients, and how to use these to create affordable, wholesome and effective body care. To this end we offer mini, intro and full-day workshops, Aromatherapy Certification and Apprenticeship, we retail and wholesale healthy, ethical ingredients and products online and in our Anarres Apothecary. Wholistic health to us does not mean merely the health of our individual minds, bodies and spirits, but also the health of the Earth and all its Beings

This is a grant position 50% funded through Nature Canada with funds from the Government of Canada and applicants MUST be 16 to 30 years of age to qualify. The participating Youth must: i. Be between the ages of fifteen (15) and thirty (30) at the time they are selected to participate in the Project; ii. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada; iii. Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the applicable provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

IN ADDITION, PROOF OF FULL VACCINATION IS REQUIRED, AS well as the ability and agreement to wear a mask and PPE as provided and observe covid prevention measures at all times.

Hours: 25 per week (normally 5 hours Tuesday through Saturday). The schedule includes some required Tuesday and Friday evenings 6 pm to 10 pm, and some Sundays 9 am to 5 pm.

The rate of pay is $16 an hour plus benefits: 20% off all purchases at Anarres Apothecary and The Hermit's Lamp, all workshop participation honoured with Certificates and count towards Aromatherapy Certification.

Position starts immediately and finishes no later than March 31, 2022.

  1. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will reach out to community organizations serving seniors, immigrants and students of all ages to offer and book hands-on mini-workshops, 2-hour introductory workshops, and 6-hour certification workshops, either in person (capacity limited to distancing, or out of doors) or virtually.
  2. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will develop educational promotional materials for social media, print, and website with the instructor, Tracey TieF. (ex: a blog post about the environmental problem of plastic beads in scrubs, and the alternatives of using fairly traded sea salt and sugar, with easy recipe provided)
  3. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will promote, monitor registration, set up, assist with and clear up after workshops, and train Apprentices and Work Exchangers to assist in workshop-related tasks.
  4. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will seek out and coordinate opportunities to present mini-workshops and talks at environmental online and outdoor events and street festivals.
  5. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will develop, edit and upload educational content for the new Anarres website in development.
  6. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will coordinate the Work Exchange and Apprenticeship and Workshops Programs by organizing administrative and feedback materials and developing short instructional videos with the instructor, Tracey TieF.
  7. Duties as required: we all partake in cleaning, moving and organizing supplies and materials throughout the workday.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Facility with the use of phone, email and virtual platforms of communication.
  • Ability to edit and upload educational website content with basic instruction in website function.
  • Ability to create, edit and upload video and audio recordings using cell phone / laptop / camera and basic free editing programs.
  • Ability to create educational and invitational social media for Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn using post scheduling (Later).
  • Ability to organize and edit educational and administrative materials using Google Docs and equipment such as printer.
  • Ability to train and supervise Apprentices and Work Exchangers to set up, assist with and clean up after workshops.
  • Ability to occasionally carry boxes that are @20 lbs up and downstairs. Ability to occasionally reach, and climb 3-6 step ladders.

ACCESSIBILITY: We regret that the Workshop and Storage Rooms are not accessible to those who cannot regularly climb stairs.


I, Tracey TieF, Certified Natural Health Practitioner, as the instructor and website developer will train, work with and supervise The Outreach and Education Coordinator directly and in person. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will engage with Apprentices and Work Exchangers during their weekly shifts, as well as with staff. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will participate in and receive the training provided to participants in all workshops. Tracey TieF will follow up with The Outreach and Education Coordinator after each task, and as needed. Tracey TieF will be present for the majority of the time during The Outreach and Education Coordinator's shifts to provide guidance and ongoing feedback.


The job takes place at Anarres Apothecary, where we have implemented safe covid prevention measures as a result of a 6-day engineering study provided by Air Q in November 2020. Measures include: PPE provided, ventilation (9 x 100% exchange rooftop air ducts, open windows, 3 x UV air filters, 2 x HEPA level 13 air filters, physical distancing and mask requirements without exception. All staff and Apprentices are fully vaccinated.) A designated laptop can be provided to the coordinator. A separate workspace can be provided on-site for some job tasks.
