Position: Propagation/ Grower Assistant
Organization: Prairie Flora Greenhouse
Location: Teulon, near Winnipeg, Manitoba

We specialize in growing wildflowers and grasses indigenous to Manitoba for home landscapes and restorations. All plants are grown from local Manitoba-collected seed. We also provide a selection of heirloom vegetables, herbs, and annual flowers for the home gardener. We use all natural fertilizers and pest management and are working to eliminate the use of both peat and plastic in our operation.

This is a great opportunity to learn identification, propagation, growth and cultural requirements for vegetables, annual flowers, herbs, and Manitoba perennials and shrubs. Assistants will also be exposed to innovative solutions for small scale organic plant production including, integrated pest management, organic soil creation, and waste reduction.


Full-time Term (Dec – Apr 30th) Application Closing Date: Nov 30, 2021
Wage: $12.00-$13.00/hr
Approximately 30 hrs/wk: 4days a week (weekdays), with the possibility for part-time summer work from May-Aug.

Our greenhouse is located just outside a rural town (30 minutes North of Winnipeg perimeter on Hwy 7). This position is best suited for a candidate that lives nearby or in the Interlake area with a reliable (winter-safe) source of transportation.

Most work takes place indoors for Dec-Jan and outdoors or in a cold frame-style greenhouse starting Feb.

Greenhouse assistants will be responsible for:

Prepping and cleaning seed, mixing soil, seeding, transplanting, watering, fertilizing and weeding. Additional responsibilities include taking care of customers in the store front, if work term goes beyond April.

We are looking for an individual who is:

  • Passionate about nature and the opportunity to work with plants
  • Very friendly and helpful towards customers and employees
  • Able to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude throughout repetitive tasks in all weather conditions
  • Hard working and able to do some bending, digging and heavy lifting (large soil bags and wheel barreling)
  • Independent, self-motivated and also does well in a team environment

Gardening/horticultural experience an asset, but not required – will train
