There are two flexible scenarios for our Nanny position:

Scenario 1: Live away, commute.

The selected candidate will care for our child, and pets, in our home and is willing to remain overnight, for one night up to three nights per block as required to meet the needs of shift-work. There will be a bedroom with ensuite bathroom for the use of the Nanny during these times. It is assumed that the Nanny has a home elsewhere and reliable transportation. The responsibilities, as highlighted above will be assumed. There will be a remuneration reflective of the hours worked.

Scenario 2: Work-Stay.

We can offer a work-stay option. The Nanny would be accommodated in a furnished bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The remuneration would be negotiated as a weekly stipend, and the Nanny would become part of our family. What does that look like?

We currently live in an urban-rural neighbourhood setting in a modest 1950's bungalow on a half-acre with 6 laying hens and a small garden plot, however…..

We have recently purchased 3-acres of land and shares in an adjoining 120 acre protected woodlot. We will begin thinning our land (to promote growth) and building a driveway during the winter months. With a plan to build a small cabin in the late Spring 2020. Our goal is to develop the land as responsible stewards with environmental sustainability and biodiversity being our guiding factors.

We will plant native Acadian Forest species and lots of edible species to increase food security and independence.

There will be other building projects planned and carry out as finances and time allow.

More hands-on for 2020: We will develop our garden plot for annual vegetables in a neighbouring field. It is an old hay field and will be high-maintenance for the first several seasons. We have developed, coordinated and facilitated organic agriculture internships in the past and still retain some useful knowledge that we love to share. We have abundant resources for organic growing and this is a great opportunity for hands-on development of ones’ skills.

It is our goal to develop a few special products for market; these plans will be further developed during the winter of 2020 and implemented in 2021.

Our work-stay Nanny doesn’t have to be involved with our plans, but the ideal candidate would seize this unique opportunity. It could be an opportunity for someone to develop their sustainable life skills and become part of something more.

There is some flexibility to customize these options and we are willing to have that conversation with those candidates who are short-listed during the interviewing process.

Please apply with a cover letter explaining why this opportunity appeals to you and why you are suited to the position, current CV, include three references (at least one must be professional), and please note that the selected candidate will be required to obtain a criminal record check and vulnerable sector clearance. Forward application package in pdf to:

speckledhengarden@gmail.com

The ideal start time is January 1st, 2020. Only those who are short-listed will be contacted. The position will remain open until filled.
