Position: Food Hub Manager

Fields Forward Society supports the development of agri-food and food processing in the Creston Valley. We are launching a regional food hub in the Creston to serve food processors in the Kootenays. We are seeking a qualified regional Food Hub Manager.

Reporting to the Fields Forward Executive Director, and in collaboration with the Food Hub Steering committee, you will help develop and launch a regional food hub in the Creston Valley.

We are looking for a food processing professional with experience working in or operating a HACCP certified facility. Our ideal candidate will have strong project management, supervisory, and stakeholder engagement skills. You will have a strong aptitude for food safety and experience with mid-size food processing equipment.

The role is to coordinate the delivery of facilities and services to producers and processors including, but not limited to, shared-use food processing area(s) and equipment (for commercial production), a food packaging area and equipment, food storage space, office space, product development and business services, and training and education on food processing and food safety.

The food hub will open in late 2021.

Responsibilities:

• Lead outreach to recruit anchor tenants and renters from the Creston Valley and Kootenay region.
• Make the food hub a regional food hub.
• Oversee Food Hub staff and operations, ensuring all facility components function optimally;
• Develop and put into practice a HAACP-based program, including preventative control program, food safety program and sanitation program, and standard operating procedures with the assistance of a HACCP professional.
• Ensure that the facility is clean and maintained according to Food Hub

Policies and procedures and HACCP guidelines; 

• Conduct and documenting regular Food Hub inspections and ensuring equipment is ready for scheduled users;
• Oversee building and grounds maintenance; 
• Ensure security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly;
• Reschedule users using the booking technology.
• Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications;
• Oversee the cleaning schedule, sanitation and food safety level of the Food Hub facility;
• Create standard operating procedures for the Food Hub;
• Assist in the preparation of all corporate, third party and regulatory inspections;

• Train personnel and ensuring personnel maintain applicable industry standards at the Food Hub facility.

Launch Food Hub operations;

• Initial operations are expected to include the use of the facility by anchor tenants with the addition of new tenants once the Food Hub has launched.
• Collaborate with other Food Hubs to share best practices and troubleshoot challenges; and
• Creating standard operating procedures for the Food Hub;

• Training personnel and ensuring personnel maintain applicable industry standards at the Food Hub facility.

• Develop operations, facility, and employee manuals
• Coordinate the development of computerized systems using software technology.
• Possibly work on the Kootenay Mobile Press part-time from mid-July to mid-November.

Salary range is $50,000-$60,000 depending on experience for a 37.5 hour week with two weeks vacation.
