Title: Farm Animal Caretaker
Hours: 2 positions available: weekdays and weekends

About Steckle Heritage Farm

Welcome to the Farm in the City! Steckle Heritage Farm is an Educational Farm operated by a non-profit, community based organization dedicated to providing agricultural, environmental and cultural programs to children and families in the Region of Waterloo. Settled in 1833 by John and Esther (Bleams) Steckle, it has been designated a heritage property by the City of Kitchener. Steckle Heritage Farm is a unique working farm and educational centre dedicated to providing a combination of hands on farm experiences and educational programs to youth, their families and the community.

Farm Animal Caretakers

Main Function: Provide diligent care to farm animals

Reports to: Executive Director

Duties:

  • Provide daily care (feeding, watering and cleaning) and health assessments to farm animals
  • Facility maintenance as related to the animals

Must:

  • Love animals
  • Be able to work unsupervised
  • Be reliable and responsible
  • Able to use initiative and independent judgment

Assets:

  • Experience caring for animals
  • Experience performing general maintenance

Variable work environments with majority of time being spent out of doors. Moderate physical exertion in an outdoor environment with some repetitive movements is part of this position.

Hours of Work:

Two available positions:

  • Monday to Friday 8am-11am
  • Saturday and Sunday 8am-11am

Possibility may be extended through the winter months with fewer hours

Employment Requirements:

Police Background Screen including Vulnerable Sector Check

Rate of Pay: $15.00/hour (position starts immediately)
