Position: Customer Service Specialist
Organization: Recycling Alternative
Location: Vancouver BC

Recycling Alternative is a locally owned recycling company that has been reducing waste in Vancouver since 1989. We are fast-growing and looking for a Customer Service representative that can grow with the company.

You are the front face of the company, representing our services and values to customers, so great communication skills are essential. You would be working with an awesome group of drivers, warehouse and customer service staff, communicating and coordinating with different departments to ensure great service!

The position entails handling incoming customer enquiries via phone and email, quoting new customers and services, as well as receiving walk-in customers, processing payments, and data entry and tracking. We are looking for someone who can problem solve in a team environment to resolve complicated customer service issues.

Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential. Candidates must be well versed in standard computer functions including Microsoft Office, and comfortable learning new software programs.

Passion for sustainability and recycling is essential! The position is ideal for an Environmental or Sustainability Studies recent grads looking for relevant work experience.

Term: Full-time position starting immediately

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:45am-5:15pm

Main Job Duties:

  • Answer phone and email inquiries from customers, provide relevant company and service information
  • Quote for new services and set up new customer accounts
  • Handle customer service changes (adding/removing services)
  • Review missed pickups and follow up with customers as needed
  • Direct incoming calls to the appropriate people/departments
  • Review issues reported by drivers and customers, work with customers and other team members to resolve the problem, assigning issues to other team members as needed
  • Manage electronic and physical files, keep customer files organized and up to date
  • Maintain spreadsheets and reports to track information such as major customers, materials, customer changes and other data as required
  • Communicate regularly with other team members, coordinate customer pickup needs with drivers and dispatch
  • Manage the service process for temporary or one-time services
  • Manage customer site moves - moving equipment, rerouting required, extra pick ups required, equipment and service level required at new site
  • Manage customer cancellations, close accounts and file documents accordingly, or direct to account management if appropriate

  • Attention to detail
  • Understands the importance of strong customer service
  • Information management, handles confidential and sensitive materials
  • Proactive - takes the initiative, able to improve processes and procedures
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience working in transportation and logistics is an asset.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced working environment
  • Willing to adapt to a changing work environment and job description
  • Love of cats an asset, we have two office cats who require constant attention!
