Position: Client and Volunteers Assistant
Organization: Richmond Food Bank Society
Location: Richmond, Greater Vancouver BC

Reporting to the General Manager, the Client and Volunteers Assistant provides front-line assistance to clients during distributions at the Richmond Food Bank (RFB). The Client and Volunteers Assistant is also responsible for volunteer support and task supervision in preparing for and during distributions and assists with warehouse operations as needed. This position requires shift, weekend, and evening work.

Responsibilities:

Client Relations

  • Provides front-line assistance to waiting clients
  • Builds rapport, answers questions, provides information
  • Works to resolve client requests and conflicts, involves other staff as required
  • Monitors and assists with parking

Volunteer Support and Supervision

  • Provides assistance to volunteers by providing task assignments and supervision
  • Provides a welcoming and supportive environment to volunteers
  • Provides or assists with volunteer orientation and training
  • Assists with volunteer recognition and events
  • Resolves conflict and misunderstanding between volunteers
  • Assists with volunteer documentation

Remote Depot Assistance

  • Loads and unloads the van
  • Drives the van to the remote depot locations
  • Provides assistance to clients and volunteers
  • Manages 2 offsite depots

Warehouse Assistance

  • Moves pallets, unloads pallets
  • Unloads the van, weighs incoming and outgoing product
  • Ensures expiry / best before dates are considered
  • Follows warehouse security measures

Food Bank Operations

  • Provides assistance with client and volunteer requests and issues
  • Assists clients with special physical and behavioural needs
  • Provides assistance for special events as required
  • Assists with tours to groups as required
  • Makes suggestions and recommendations for improvements and changes
  • Safety officer in case of fire, earthquake, or other need to evacuate

Additional duties as required

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in client-service, volunteer or warehouse environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Forklift certification
  • Class 5 drivers license
  • First aid certification

Concrete demonstrable skills include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people (staff, volunteers, donors)
  • Passion and support for community service and a desire to contribute to a positive, caring and supportive environment

Hours: Wednesday to Saturday up to 25 hours/week at $18/hour
