Position: Executive Outreach Assistant
Organization: Earthwise Society
Location: Delta, Greater Vancouver BC

Earthwise Society has been a not-for-profit leader in community-based environmental education for over 30 years. The Society operates a demonstration garden of sustainable landscape practices and small scale organic farms at several sites in South Delta and Agassiz. Earthwise has an exciting opportunity for an energetic and articulate individual who is passionate about making a personal contribution to sustainability. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Executive Outreach Assistant will provide important support services to ensure the smooth functioning of Earthwise programs and work to diversify revenue streams and raise the profile of Earthwise Society’s activities in the community.

Duties and responsibilities

COMMUNICATIONS

Goal: Advance the society’s profile in the community and increase active engagement

  • In consultation with Executive Director, develop and implement communications plans to raise organizational visibility
  • Support other staff in the implementation of outreach and marketing strategies
  • Plan and implement community events and fundraising activities including annual Tomato Festival and 100 Mile Banquet
  • Increase revenue streams from events and community engagement, including donations, sponsorship and fundraising activities
  • Grow and strengthen community networks and partnerships
  • Diversify and increase the use of site(s) as venues for community activities
  • Conduct membership drives, organize AGM, maintain up-to-date membership lists, handle renewals

PROGRAM COORDINATION

Goal: Ensure sustainability and functioning of EW Society funded programs

  • Oversee coordination of Delta Food Coalition programs, monitor and report on program deliverable
  • Research and identify opportunities for program sustainability, assist with grant applications and administration
  • Oversee deliverables for funded programs, assist with claims and reporting

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

Goal: Support organizational functioning of Society

  • Assist with hiring, training, and human resources management
  • Provide support for bookkeeping and accounting functions
  • Provide office support as needed: phones, mail outs, filing, ordering supplies, and keeping workspace clean and organized
  • Provide support for efficient use of existing office technology, computer networks and inter-office communication
  • Maintain and update computer mailing lists, group contacts, etc

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post secondary program in a field related to Environmental Sciences, Business or Non-profit Management, or Communication
  • Experience with the not-for-profit sector, fundraising and grants
  • Experience with communications, event planning, customer service, and marketing
  • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Proven track record providing administrative tasks in a fast paced office environment
  • Strong computer skills, including organizing data and mailing lists, page layout and design, using Mac and PC
  • A personal interest in social and environmental issues, gardening, or growing food would be an asset

TERMS

This is a full time temporary position 35 hours per week, from Sept 4 through Dec 15, 2018 located at the Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen, BC. The position will be renewed for 2019 based upon a satisfactory performance review and availability of funding.
