Position: Nature School Director
Hours: 4 days/week

Soaring Eagle Nature School (SENS) is a Vancouver based school that offers unique nature based programs to youth, teens and adults. Our mission at Soaring Eagle Nature School is to empower people to discover and share their gifts through meaningful connections with the natural world. We honour the natural cycles within people and use their own excitement and curiosity to guide their learning and their connections to themselves, the earth and other people.

Soaring Eagle Nature School is seeking a Director

This is an opportunity to step into a well-established nature based school as Director, interfacing with staff, students, families and the logistical side of the business. SENS is going in to its 10th year as a business and is growing each year. You should be passionate about hands-on nature education and supporting youth in their connections to the natural world in a non-coercive and supportive way, and want to bring nature connection into the lives of youth and adults in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. We are looking for a committed, dedicated and resourceful individual to be Director of this school.


Human Resources

  • Staff hiring and training
  • Ongoing staff mentoring and professional and skills development — we have a team of 10-12 instructors who provide programming for hundreds of children annually
  • Building and maintaining internship program, including intern mentoring
  • Program and staff evaluation
  • Keeping staff inspired to learn new skills and maintain their own learning journey
  • Create and ensure a collaborative and caring staff and intern team
  • Maintain solid relations with parks board
  • Liaising with students and their families
  • Ongoing communications with ED and Communications Lead
  • Additional Duties as Required

Program Support and Development

  • Plan, Grow and Develop New Programs
  • Engage in on the ground programming – leading programs, mentoring children and staff
  • Maintenance and Continued Growth of current programs
  • Curriculum Development
  • Professional Development for BC Teachers around nature education
  • Find and secure new and exciting locations for programs
  • Organize year-long programs, spring break and summer
  • Connecting with schools to offer programming and nature mentoring with teachers
  • Insurance Renewal and permit renewal as they arise
  • Regulatory oversight and legal compliance, including HR policies
  • Assist with other tasks with the school including strategic planning, special events, etc.
  • Additional Duties as Required

Financial Management

  • Submitting Employee Payroll
  • Maintaining Revenue
  • Creative ideas around financial growth
  • Communication with Accounting/ Bookkeeper
  • Direct and administer financial plans, projections and annual budgets


  • Minimum 3 year experience in ED role, or Director role in a nature based school
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Education or Environmental degree
  • Child Development Expertise

Preferred, but not required to apply:

  • Graduate of the Anake Program and the Anake Leadership Program, RDNA program or similar program
  • Graduate of the Kamana Naturalist Program, or equivalent
  • Solid experience and training in Coyote Mentoring and the 8 Shield Model

Salary and conditions:

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range is $42,000 - $48,000 a year for a 4 day work week.

Potential for up to 3 weeks vacation per year. Some travel around the Lower Mainland will be required. Office work is required, as well as site visits and in the field visits.

Position will start early to mid April to allow for ample training time and overlap with current Director.
